Thirteen miles from downtown and less than thirty miles from Dauphin Island, the Westmont provides a quiet neighborhood that’s still connected with the rest of Mobile. “Most people who move out there are trying to get further out from the city,” says Stacey Hastings, a local Realtor who has been selling homes in the area for years. “You’re close to the interstate and eateries. It’s a very convenient area.”

Azalea bushes and ranch-style homes
Lawns of Westmont are often landscaped with mature trees, from oaks to magnolias, or blossoming azaleas, lending to Mobile’s moniker: the Azalea City. Many homes have chain link or wooden privacy fences. Off-street parking is abundant, as many homes have driveways, garages or carports.
Westmont enjoys a cohesive visual design, as most homes are either ranch-style or split level homes. “The houses are reasonably priced. It’s mostly older homes in the neighborhood,” says Hastings. “We don’t see a lot of new builds.” Single-family homes sell for a median of $175,000, making the area less pricey than other neighborhoods in Mobile.

College accreditation and abundant clubs at local high school
Students begin school at WC Griggs Elementary School and advance to Katherine H. Hankins Middle School, rated B-minus and C respectively. Students will graduate from Theodore High School, rated C-plus. Theodore High School is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement and the Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation. Their robust extracurricular options range from the National Honors Society to a robotics club to drama organizations.

Bordering interstate makes commutes easy
Westmont is conveniently bordered by the Mobile thoroughfares Government Boulevard and Interstate 10. A personal car is necessary to get around the neighborhood and into the main parts of town, but the neighborhood’s location makes it easy to access the rest of Mobile.

Westmont Winn-Dixie and local restaurants
A Winn-Dixie is located on the eastern side of the neighborhood, making it easy for residents to shop for groceries and household essentials. Westmont has a couple of different fast food options, Arby’s and McDonald’s, as well as popular local spot Aztecas Restaurant & Cantina. With Taco Tuesdays and a happy hour every weekday, locals frequent the spot for good food close to home.
While there are no parks in Westmont, Boykin Park is 5 miles south of the neighborhood. A baseball diamond used by local youth leagues is the park’s biggest draw, but it also offers some shady green space for outdoor relaxation.

Community event space
While the neighborhood is a more mellow area, it does facilitate residents hosting their own events. Tillman’s Corner Community Center hosts weddings, business events or birthday parties. Its rooms hold 10 to 300 people, with the largest offering a stage and a commercial kitchen.
