Classic cottages and renovated American Foursquares set a traditional tone
Uptown Moline stands out for its early 20th-century homes, from workers' cottages to American Foursquare homes. Spanning about 50 blocks between 12th Avenue and 19th Avenue about 2 miles from the Mississippi River, Uptown Moline was designed to accommodate families who could easily walk to schools, local markets and nearby parks. The tidy cottages and handsome two-story homes with balconies, wrap-around porches and multi-gabled rooflines echo scenes from black & white movies where kids play ball in front yards and ride bicycles through well-appointed parks. Even though changes are evident—some homes are converted to duplexes and more cars are parked on the streets today than 100 years ago — the overall vibe is one of residential comfort, style and convenience.
“Locals have always called Uptown ‘Old Towne,’” says Candice Shamsie, a Ruhl & Ruhl Realtors broker with 22 years of real estate experience. “Even though several nearby neighborhoods have their own place names, including Overlook, Uptown Moline, Stephens Park and Old Towne, locals call the broader area ‘Old Towne’.”
Cottage homes on larger lots are also available in Uptown Moline.

While there are more than 1,000 single-family homes in the neighborhood, buyers will also find some condominiums and apartments.

Stephens Park is the largest in the area
Though the neighborhood does not have a park within its boundaries, five city parks are within a 1-mile radius. The closest is Stephens Park, one of the largest in Moline. It occupies 27 acres from Fifth to 15th avenues. Its busiest attractions are its Rolle Bolle courts and three baseball fields. People use the basketball and sand volleyball courts and enjoy walking and running in the open green spaces. New playground equipment was installed in 2023, including multiple slides, a merry-go-round, swings and climbing structures.
At the John Deere Pavilion on River Drive, kids can climb on several of its largest and most unusual machines, from farm tractors to massive construction vehicles. John Deere, who is buried in the Quad-Cities, developed a new version of the venerable steel farming plow in the 1840s, and the modern-day corporation is based here. “John Deere is an important part of the community,” says Cheyenne Khounnha, Realtor with Landmark Realty of Illinois and a real estate agent for over 10 years. “As one of the largest area employers, they’re a big part of Moline and Old Towne’s story.”
