Monroe boasts quiet, mountain views and natural recreation
Monroe is rich in natural resources, located at the base of the Monroe and Glenwood mountains. Homes are located along gridded streets near local businesses and parks, except private residences which are often on the surrounding dairies and farms. “It’s very much a rural community, with farm land and recreational land,” says Nate Sase, a Realtor at Keller Williams Salt Lake City with over 10 years of experience. “It’s just a little bit more breathing room. I’d say it’s either older couples wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle, or some young professional families with kids that like to get out there for either a second home or a bit more small town lifestyle to raise their kids.”
Mountain vistas from ranch-style and New Traditional homes
Monroe has many ranch-style homes and New Traditionals, some with a combination of panel siding and brick. Home prices range from about $240,000 to $650,000. Many properties have space for a private garden and overlook the mountains. Homes closer to the range may be at an elevated risk of wildfires. “For the state of Utah in general, it’s not necessarily a surprise when we get wildfires, but it’s not an area that is super prone where fire insurance is an additional rider on people’s policies,” Sase says.
The area’s CAP Index Crime Score is a 2 out of 10, while the national average is 4.
Mountainside parks, wilderness trails and The Mystic Hot Springs
Mountain View Park has a playground, splash pad and athletic facilities that include soccer and baseball fields as well as tennis courts. Lions Park is an open space with picnic tables on Main Street. It is also home to the Monroe City Library. “[Monroe is] butted up next to a mountainside, so with a lot of the activities people talk about in Monroe, they’re referring to that mountain range, which is going to be the ATV-ing, snowmobiling and hunting,” Sase says. Some off-road trails are near The Mystic Hot Springs, where tourists and residents must pay a fee to soak in the local mineral waters. The nearby mountains are part of Fishlake National Forest, which features thousands of miles of off-highway vehicle trails and various hiking trails.
In July 2025, a wildfire damaged many paths near Monroe, and some remain currently closed.
Shopping for outdoor gear, restaurants and a grocery on Main Street
Local restaurants and GG’s Marketplace, a grocery store, are on Main Street. Bullies Drive Inn serves American fast food, and Heirloom Bakery Cafe offers soups, salads and breads. Huntsmen Outdoors sells clothing and gear for nearby wilderness adventures. Main Street hosts several events as part of the Pioneer Days Celebration, including a parade and a milk run. Tennis and basketball tournaments are also part of the three-day-long event.
Sevier’s primary schools and a career-based learning center
Monroe is in the attendance boundary of the Sevier School District, which offers open enrollment and interdistrict transfers. As a result, students can apply to attend schools outside their designated enrollment zone, provided space is available. Monroe Elementary and South Sevier Middle serve the area, and both schools earn B grades from Niche. South Sevier High School receives a C overall. It provides transportation to the Sevier Career and Technical Education Center, which offers classes such as carpentry.
Main Street to Richfield and Interstate 15 to Salt Lake City
Monroe’s Main Street, a segment of Utah Highway 118, has medical clinics and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meetinghouses. The highway connects the area to Richfield, including the Sevier Valley Hospital, about 15 miles away. Interstate 70 also travels through Richfield. Interstate 15 ties the region to Salt Lake City, about 180 miles away. The city includes the Salt Lake City International Airport.
