Monson has ranging fields, thick forests that preserve wildlife and waterways, and a historic site that is home to quirky antiques. It's known for a friendly community, and Monson residents take pride in their sense of community, "It's got a hometown feel as far as people and groups working together to make it a special place to live," says Karen King, a Realtor with RE/MAX Connections.

The Keep Homestead Museum button collection is home to the largest collection of antique and vintage buttons on display in the U.S. While only a fraction of these quirky items are on display at one time, it's no less impressive. This homestead has 75 acres of farmland and was home to nine generations of the Keep family until the death of Myra Keep Lovell Moulton in 1988. The family's final Monson matriarch endowed the homestead to the town on the condition that it be maintained as a museum.

Housing prices typically range from around $400,000 to $650,000, although there are million-dollar properties popping up in town. Colonial, Craftsman, and Cape Cod homes are common on the streets of Monson Center, many of which date back to the early 20th century. Monson Center encompasses the town's commercial area and Monson Center Historic District. Monson's road and streets range into the countryside and lead to secluded ranch homes across the rest of town.

Students in Monson start their educational journey at Granite Valley School, which has a C+ rating on Niche. There are only two schools in this town, and learners wrap up their educational journeys at Monson High School, which has strong ratings for its teachers and popular sports teams. It's common to see community members come out on game night to support the Mustangs.

Monson is dotted with campgrounds and is home to the Peaked Mountain Reservation. Here, you can hike to the summit of Peaked Mountain. This popular trail is accessible via the Peaked Mountain Reservation trail network. This protected area of land covers about 1,000 acres.

The Monson Center Historic District comprises 10 buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The designated buildings represent the town's former commercial and governmental center as it was in the 19th century. This district preserves the architecture of this time period, especially in the Unitarian Universalist Parish of Monson, built in 1889. This stone building has a distinctive steeple and a large turreted section set with long rectangular windows.

Main Street stretches north to south, and Monson's commercial center sits along this thoroughfare. Main Street Tavern is a local favorite for its Italian-style fare, burgers, sandwiches and beer. "The tavern does a lot of fundraising in town as well as being a popular place to go at night," says King. Monson Italian Pizzeria keeps the dough flipping and spinning, and you can buzz over to southeast Monson and pop into Queen Bee Vineyard, where you can sample a dozen wines during the warmer months.

For a homebuyer looking to join a thriving and welcoming community, Monson is an option worth considering.
