Folks in Outer East Montgomery are hard-pressed to want for anything. "Everything is moving east," says Lynn McKinley, a Montgomery native and Realtor with New Waters Realty. "There's really a lot of activity. People are close to shopping, churches, parks and banks. The schools are pretty good out east, too." Due east, central Montgomery's urban environs dissolve into an outlying, rural-like landscape, where a wide selection of housing styles, shopping, dining, schools and entertainment options await. "It's a big area, so it's hard to give many specifics, but, you know, in these subdivisions, neighbors walk around, walk their dogs, ride bicycles and wave to say hi," says McKinley. "There are lots of trees, and, in the springtime, there are a lot of blooms. Azaleas and the like." Montgomery's Outer East seems to grow a little more every day, balancing convenience and lush tree-lined charm.

Subdivisions of colonial revivals, ranch-style homes and more
Outer East contains a mix of homes ranging from older properties with large yards from the 1970s, '80s and '90s to new construction houses clustered together in tighter subdivisions. "The cost of housing depends on where on where on the east side you're looking," McKinley says. "There's a lot of variety, so there's accessibility." Gated and ungated communities dapple the map of Outer East, home to an array of architectural designs, including Colonial Revivals, ranch-style abodes, New Traditionals, Neoclassical estates and more. Overall list prices range from $100,000 to $711,000. The average home value, $209,954, is about the cost of an older four-bedroom, two-bathroom property.
