From midcentury ranches to modern estates

Housing in Montrose-Ghent spans across decades and styles. "There's a variety of homes that you don't see in most of the Akron area," says GARY DEREMER, a Realtor with Carriage Group Realtor who lives in nearby Cuyahoga Falls. Most homes were built between the 1940s and the 2010s, though a handful date back to the 1800s. Throughout the neighborhood, you’ll find cul-de-sacs and low-traffic streets lined with sidewalks, leafy trees and a mix of midcentury ranch-style homes, split-levels, Colonial Revivals and newer houses with traditional or contemporary influences.

Single-family prices typically range from the low $300,000s to mid-$800,000s, depending on the home’s size and condition. On rare occasions, larger estates have sold for over $1 million. The area's condos and townhouses start in the $200,000s and can reach the upper $300,000s. If you're looking at properties near ponds and creeks, keep in mind they may have a moderate risk of flooding, so flood insurance could be worth considering.

How people get around using highways, buses and nearby airports

Most people here rely on cars for daily travel, though public transit is available through Akron METRO bus services. According to Laurie Morgan Schrank, a Realtor with Keller Williams Chervenic Realty who lives in neighboring Fairlawn, most bus riders use the service for errands or commuting to work.

Interstate 77 runs through the area, providing easy highway access. Downtown Akron is typically less than a 30-minute drive, depending on traffic, while downtown Cleveland is about 25 miles away. Two airports, Akron-Canton and Cleveland Hopkins International, are both within 30 miles.

Chain and local restaurants, big-box stores and Summit Mall are nearby

Retail, business and dining are concentrated along Interstate 77 and state Route 18. “You have restaurants, you have grocery stores, you have nail salons. We also have a ‘restaurant hill,’ where there are all kinds of restaurants,” Schrank says.
Shopping and dining options you'll find:

  • Chain eateries like Bob Evans and LongHorn Steakhouse
  • Locally owned spots like Sakura Sushi and Vaccaro’s Trattoria
  • Grocery stores, including Giant Eagle and Aldi
  • Big-box retailers such as Sam’s Club, Walmart and Home Depot
Summit Mall is only a few miles down the road in Fairlawn and has more than 125 shops, including two department stores, Macy’s and Dillard’s, and an Apple store.
