Montrose-Ghent is a commercial hub about 12 miles from Akron
Montrose-Ghent is a retail hub with a suburban atmosphere only 12 miles from downtown Akron. “Montrose is a shopping area. You have restaurants, you have grocery stores, you have nail salons. Right down the street is Summit Mall,” says Realtor Laurie Morgan Schrank with Keller Williams Realty. This commercial hub also features a variety of residences, from modest midcentury ranch-style homes to stand-alone condos. Outdoor recreation, including the 33,000-acre Cuyahoga National Park, is less than 5 miles away. Interstate 77 connects the community to nearby major cities, including Cleveland.
Ranch-style and New Traditional homes are typical
Winding roads and cul-de-sacs fill Montrose-Ghent, where towering trees shade grassy lawns. Most properties were built between the 1940s and the 2010s, although some date back to the 1800s. Older homes include ranch-styles, split-levels and Colonial Revivals. New Traditional houses often have colonial or contemporary influences. Prices generally fall between $260,000 and $870,000, depending on size. Larger estates have sold for $1 million to $4 million. Some condos are available, typically ranging from $170,000 to $300,000, although stand-alone units can cost $430,000 to $550,000.
There are small ponds and creeks throughout the area, so, according to First Street, Montrose-Ghent is at a major risk from flooding. Mortgage lenders may require flood insurance.
Chain and local restaurants, major retailers and Summit Mall are nearb
Major retailers and eateries are clustered along Interstate 77 and state Route 18. “We have a ‘restaurant hill,’ where there are all kinds of restaurants,” Schrank says. Most are chains like Kingfish and Longhorn Steakhouse. Locally owned recommendations from Schrank include Sakura, which serves sushi, and Vaccaro's Trattoria, a high-end Italian restaurant. There are several grocery options, including Giant Eagle and Aldi. Sam’s Club, Walmart and Home Depot are also in the area. Summit Mall is less than 5 miles away, anchored by Macy’s and Dillard’s.
Revere Local Schools are highly rated by Niche
Montrose-Ghent is part of the Revere Local School District. Bath Elementary School and Revere Middle School earn an A from Niche. Revere High School receives an A-minus and partners with the University of Akron to offer dual enrollment through the College Credit Plus program.
Recreation includes fitness centers and Cuyahoga Valley National Park
The Bath branch of the Akron Health and Wellness Center is one of several fitness centers in the area. It has a pool, weight room and cardio equipment. Members can take a fitness class or work with a personal trainer. The center is part of the Cleveland Clinic and offers health care services like an emergency department. Cuyahoga Valley National Park stretches to the border of Montrose-Ghent and has over 125 miles of hiking trails. It's also home to the Blossom Music Center, which draws in popular acts like James Taylor and Willie Nelson. Bath Hill Park is about a mile outside the community and has pickleball and tennis courts, a walking trail and a playground.
Interstate 77 and Akron Metro help people get around
Cars are the main form of transportation, although many people take the Akron Metro bus. “Not only is the bus going to be for people shopping, that’s going to be for a lot of the workers,” Schrank says. Interstate 77 goes through the area, leading about 25 miles to downtown Cleveland. While Akron-Canton Airport is only around 20 miles away, people will often travel the 30 miles to Cleveland International Airport because it offers nonstop service to almost 50 destinations.
