Mooresburg's proud past and rural present
Around the turn of the 20th century, Mooresburg was well-known throughout Northeast Tennessee for its natural springs, around which several resorts popped up. While the resorts were mainly closed by the middle of the 1900s, Mooresburg still offers access to amenities like Cherokee Lake while holding onto the region’s rural character. “There’s a sense of pride for the community,” says Jerrod Brown, a Realtor with Single Tree Realty who lives in Mooresburg. “It still has that old Appalachia feeling. You feel right at home.”
A variety of home types, mainly from the 20th century
Narrow country roads branch off U.S. Highway 11W, with homes often sitting back off long driveways. While homes themselves are often small, they sometimes sit on lots that are several acres. Ranch-style houses built from the 1960s onward are most common in the community, often selling between $200,000 and the high $300,000s. Manufactured homes in the area go from the low $200,000s to $300,000. Small cottages from as early as the 1940s are scattered and rarely see the market.

Recreation at Cherokee Lake is a selling point
Mooresburg borders Cherokee Lake, a reservoir impounded by the Tennessee Valley Authority in 1942. While initially meant for flood mitigation and power generation at the dam, the lake is now a recreation destination. Bass fishing is popular, and several campgrounds sit around the water. “It’s one of the main things that makes the area so popular,” Brown says. “In the summer months, being able to boat and wakeboard and ski. There’s plenty of room on the lake where it’s not overcrowded.” West of Mooresburg in Bean Station, Clinchview Golf Club has an 18-hole course and a driving range.

Most essentials found within the community
Though Mooresburg is a rural community, the area has a handful of businesses within its bounds. The Green Tomato Grill is a Mooresburg staple, with a wide-ranging menu and an eclectic interior. “That’s the place to be when you’re eating in Mooresburg,” Brown says. “It’s a diner feel, but they’ve got a large selection. They cover the whole nine yards.” S&J Produce is a spot for groceries, while Dollar General has other essentials. While most everyday necessities can be found nearby, residents can head to big-box stores and national chains in any of Morristown, Rogersville or Tazewell — each roughly 15 miles out from Mooresburg.

Between Knoxville and Kingsport on Highway 11W
While the NET Trans system offers on-demand rides throughout Northeast Tennessee, most residents own cars to get around. U.S. Highway 11W runs through Mooresburg as the main thoroughfare — Knoxville is 50 miles southwest, while Kingsport is 40 miles northeast. “Where it’s caught between a growing city like Morristown and being a high-traffic area between Knoxville and the Tri-Cities, Mooresburg is slated to grow,” Brown says. Hawkins County Memorial Hospital is the nearest hospital, 14 miles away in Rogersville.
