Mooresville may be “Home of the State Flag,” but it’s also home to nearly 10,000 residents who no doubt relish having all the charm and comforts of life in a small town as well as all the conveniences of living within 20 miles of Indianapolis. And on top of all that, “Mooresville is beautiful,” says Michelle Chandler, Realtor and owner of the Shelia and Michelle Team for Keller Williams Indy Metro South, who has sold countless homes in the area. “The terrain is gorgeous here. You have rolling hills, you have privacy, you have all four seasons. It is very quickly becoming a destination place.”

Mooresville has a more populated center of town located along the northern edge of the neighborhood, surrounded by much more rural acreage. Homes in town are on smaller city-sized lots on gridded streets with plenty of sidewalks. House hunters could find styles like bungalows from the 1920s, cottages from the 1940s, and ranches from the 1960s. More contemporary homes can be found outside of town, in both subdivisions and set back on country lanes among fields of farmland. Prices range as much as the houses do, from the $100,000s to almost $1 million, and are largely dependent on lot size, square footage and condition.

Depending on their home address, students in the Mooresville neighborhood could attend one of three school districts: the Monroe-Gregg School District, the Metropolitan School District of Martinsville or the Mooresville Consolidated School Corporation. The Mooresville Consolidated School Corporation serves the most densely populated portion of Mooresville and includes schools like Northwood Elementary, graded B by Niche; Paul Hadley Middle School, graded B-minus; and Mooresville High School, graded B. Students at Paul Hadley Middle can take certain classes for high school credit to get ahead of the curve later, including Algebra, Biology and Introduction to Agriculture. All Indiana students in grades 6 through 12 can take advantage of a free tutoring hotline.

Pioneer Park is Mooresville’s largest park, at 152 acres. Here, you’ll find the Mooresville Family Aquatic Center, which features several pools, splash pads and slides. The park also offers playgrounds, fields to play ball, horseshoe courts and a walking trail. More walking trails and opportunities for spotting some local wildlife can be explored nearby at Sodalis Nature Park, named for the endangered bat species that calls the park home. For golf lovers, book a tee time at Eagle Pines Golf Club and enjoy meandering the gently rolling terrain.

The neighborhood’s commerce largely contributes to Mooresville’s small-town identity. According to Chandler, “Of course you have your chains — you have your Wendy’s and McDonald’s and Taco Bells — but there are so many neat niche places to go. There might be just 30 seats in one restaurant because it’s a mom-and-pop, but it’s something you won’t get anywhere else.” The independent businesses, like Bran N Shorts Coffee House and Yellow Moon Antique Mall, are mostly clustered along North Indiana Street, lined with brick sidewalks just made for strolling on a Saturday afternoon. And speaking of chains, you can get all your groceries at Kroger, health necessities at CVS and home improvement supplies at Lowes. For everything else, Indianapolis is within just 20 miles of home.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
