Butterfield
Community parks offer outdoor sports, and a state park with a lake is nearby
Neighbors can walk to Weston Park on Lasselle Street, where the colorful “You Are Stronger Than You Think” mural frames the Kawhi Leonard basketball court. The Los Angeles Clippers star grew up in the area and helped fund the court's construction to create a safe space for local youth. Sunnymead Park on Perris Boulevard is a 16-acre space that stays busy with sports leagues and families cheering from the stands. The Moreno Valley Public Library on Alessandro Boulevard hosts events like toddler time and family fun nights. Just 6 miles away, Lake Perris State Recreation Area spans 8,800 acres for swimming and fishing.Established homes are within walking distance to an elementary school
Butterfield features nature-themed streets like White Birch Lane and Fruit Tree Street, reflecting its environment of palm and columnar trees. Ranch, Mediterranean and contemporary-style homes in neutral hues rest on small lots with multicar garages and driveways. Most houses have modest yards with in-ground pools enclosed by wooden, wrought iron or stone gates. Sidewalks and crosswalks help ensure safety for kids walking to school. Homes built between the 1980s and early 2000s range in price from $478,000 to $550,000. Larger properties go for $610,000 to $850,000.International Baccalaureate and STEM programs offered at local schools
Moreno Valley Unified School District has a B-minus grade on Niche. Butterfield Language Academy has a C-plus grade and teaches kindergarten through 8th grade. C-plus-rated Mountain View Middle School is home to an International Baccalaureate program. Valley View High School receives a B grade. Students in ninth through 12th grades can take Career Technical Education courses in STEM subjects such as Engineering Design, Legal Practices and Sports Medicine. Many locally owned restaurants in the area, but limited shopping
Butterfield is primarily residential, but close to local restaurants. “We have lots of little hole-in-the-wall places. I like going to Margaritas Grill, which is just up the street. It’s a mom-and-pop shop, and the food and service are always great,” Brown says. A Raising Canes restaurant is a new addition to the area, Brown says, and locals often head to other cities, like Riverside, for mall shopping. “We can do much better when it comes to shopping," she adds, "but we’re branching out." A few grocery stores are within a 2-mile radius, including Cardenas Markets and Smart & Final Extra on Alessandro Boulevard. Target and Walmart Supercenter are also near Eucalyptus Avenue.Moreno Valley residents come together through cultural events
While the neighborhood has few events, the Moreno Valley Civic Center Amphitheater serves as a city hub for festivities. The MoVal Multicultural & Art Festival in May celebrates the city’s diverse heritage through art and traditional performances of Folklorico ballet and Taiko drumming.Convenient access to Riverside and major employers
The 60 freeway is north of the neighborhood, and the 215 freeway is about 2 miles away. "It can take around half an hour to get to [Riverside], depending on the time of day," Brown says. The Riverside Transit Agency has bus stops along Eucalyptus Avenue. It's a 3-mile drive to the nearest hospital, Riverside University Health System Medical Center. Butterfield is 7 miles from March Air Reserve Base, one of Riverside County’s major employers. For flights, San Bernardino International Airport is 25 miles north.Butterfield's earthquake risks
Moreno Valley sits along the San Jacinto Fault Zone, making earthquakes familiar to residents. “The [earthquakes] aren’t that bad. There’s probably one every two months, but I am used to them at this point,” Brown says. Standard homeowners' insurance policies generally do not cover earthquake damage, so residents may want to consider adding coverage.
