Ken Caryl Ranch is an expansive, master planned community about 4 miles west of Columbine, with multiple subdivisions of well-kept homes and community parks, overseen by a master association. Subdivisions of single-family homes from the ’80s and ’90s

Winding cul-de-sacs make up most of Ken Caryl Ranch’s subdivisions, where homes have maintained lawns, decorative trees and driveways that lead to garages. Most of the neighborhood’s recent sales have been in its western region. New Traditional multi-story homes are common, built in the 1980s and 1990s. Some are more contemporary, with simple exteriors and tucked-in garages, while others have Craftsman features such as front gables, pointed roofs and stone or brick accents. There are also a handful of contemporary single-story homes. Prices range from $825,000 to $1.3 million. Some properties are more estate-like with acreage and can get up to $1.6 million.

Ken Caryl Ranch’s eastern region also has a selection of New Traditional multi-story homes, though they are rarely listed on the market. There are also Colonial Revivals with simple brick or vinyl siding and symmetrical windows. Townhouses and duplexes are another option.

Amenities and events for the community

As a master planned community, Ken Caryl Ranch offers amenities specific to residents. The Ken Caryl Ranch Community Center features 10 tennis courts, an outdoor swimming pool and a community garden. The neighborhood also has an equestrian center with boarding facilities and pastures. The master association often hosts events, including community concerts, block parties and Food Truck Fridays. “Ken Caryl has a very active master association that goes above and beyond to preserve the uniqueness of our community,” Small says.

Staying active in community and state parks

Most of the area’s parks are connected by greenbelts and walking paths. Ken Caryl Ranch Community Park is one of the neighborhood’s many recreational spots. The green space, to the east, is outfitted with a playground, four soccer fields, two baseball fields and a picnic area. Down the road, Ken Caryl Ranch House Park has 10 tennis courts and a nine-hole disc golf course. About 3 miles north, Meadows Golf Club has a public, 18-hole golf course. Chatfield State Park is around 5 miles away with over 5,300 acres of land for hiking and camping, as well as boating, fishing and swimming in the Chatfield Reservoir.

Hogback Mountain separates Ken Caryl Ranch’s two major areas, with the Cathy Johnson Trail traveling through. To the west of the neighborhood, Bradford Park is the site of the historic Bradford House, with an outdoor swimming pool and multiple athletic courts. South of the area is South Valley Park, which is maintained by Jefferson County and has several hiking trails winding past red sandstone formations.

Jefferson County has A-rated public schools

Children living in Ken Caryl Ranch can start their education at Bradford K-8, which earns an A-minus grade from Niche. The school has two campuses: Bradford K-8 South enrolls kindergarten through fourth grade, while Bradford K-8 North teaches grades five through eight. “I’ve seen firsthand how dedicated and caring the principals, teachers and staff are. They truly pour their hearts into the kids and community,” Small says, as an active PTA parent and business sponsor for Bradford. Chatfield Senior High School receives an A rating and offers over 40 student clubs and activities.

Ken Caryl Ranch is dotted with many commercial centers

Several shopping centers are scattered throughout Ken Caryl Ranch. The Ken Caryl business center off Shaffer Parkway has a Safeway and bicycle store. Homegrown Tap & Dough is a pizzeria serving specialty pies and craft beer. Chains include Chipotle and Jimmy John’s. Down the street, Meadows Plaza has Einstein Bros Bagels and Starbucks.

Jefferson Village on Kipling Parkway also has a Safeway, plus stores like Kohl’s and Bath & Body Works. Across the street, HiLo American Eatery is an Italian restaurant, and Los Dos Potrillos Mexican Restaurant serves authentic Mexican cuisine. For additional options, Southwest Plaza Mall is around 4 miles northeast.

Traveling in and around Ken Caryl Ranch by car

Getting around Ken Caryl Ranch often requires a vehicle. Ken Caryl Avenue is the neighborhood’s main thoroughfare, connecting the eastern and western regions. Colorado state Highway 470 travels north and south through the area and can be used to reach Morrison, about 9 miles north. Additionally, Colorado’s Regional Transportation District has bus stops along Ken Caryl Avenue and Valley Parkway. Denver International Airport is roughly 47 miles away.
