Serene escape from the city of Hood River

Woodworth Acres—with its expansive fruit orchards and spacious lots—presents a quiet escape outside Hood River, though city conveniences are never out of reach. “You can get to downtown Hood River in about 20 to 30 minutes, but you are still far away. People go up to [this area] to get away from the touristy stuff,” says Jen Dillard, a team lead with the Jen Dillard Real Estate Team, affiliated with Real Broker. One of Oregon’s most popular nature destinations—and most in-demand views—is just south of the community at the Mount Hood stratovolcano. “You’re like 20 minutes to the mountain and the resorts to go skiing and snowboarding, too,” Dillard says.

Lakes, rivers and Mount Hood surround Woodworth Acres

Locals have a variety of outdoor recreation at their disposal, from wind sports in Hood River and winter sports on Mount Hood to boating on several lakes nearby. Laurence Lake, about 10 miles away, has hiking trails, calm waters for paddleboarding and kayaking, as well as panoramic views of Mount Hood. A boat launch, a fish-cleaning station and rentals for kayaks and canoes are available at Lost Lake, which is around 16 miles away from Woodworth Acres. There, parkgoers can enjoy a meal in the fresh air on picnic tables or a lazy day hammocking with views of the lake.

Top Chef-featured wines and authentic tacos

Paco’s Tacos is a popular place among farmers in the area to grab a quick lunch. The food truck’s Parkdale location serves birria and al pastor tacos on handmade tortillas, with fresh, grass-fed meats from the truck owner’s family ranch and spices imported from Mexico City.

The neighborhood is part of the Hood River Fruit Loop, a route of orchards, farms and wineries, like nearby Grateful Vineyard. Featured on Top Chef, the winery gained recognition for its high-elevation sparkling wines, which patrons can sip on a grassy meadow overlooking rows of vines. For groceries, locals head to McIsaac’s Store in Parkdale or the Mid Valley Market in Odell, though there are more options in nearby Hood River.

Homes on properties with views and acreage

Homeowners in Woodworth Acres enjoy privacy, with acres of farmland, orchards and forest separating properties. Cape Cods and Craftsman homes built as early as the 1930s and as recently as the 2010s usually come on more than one acre, with some orchard lots spread across 20 acres. Prices range from $650,000 to $750,000. Ranch-style homes built between 1980 and 2010 on one- to five-acre lots can sell for $300,000 to $425,000. “[Buyers] really like that they can have acreage out there,” Dillard says. “A lot of properties have really amazing views of the mountain. Those are the two most important things for them.” The community's orchards and farms, combined with the region’s hot, arid climate, may put the neighborhood at an increased risk of potential wildfires.

College credit at Hood River Valley High

Students in Woodworth Acres may attend Parkdale Elementary School, which earns a grade of B-plus from Niche, before moving forward to B-rated Wy’East Middle School. Teenagers may enroll at Hood River Valley High School—which earns an A-minus—offering opportunities for college credit with courses like Introduction to Folklore and Mythology, Child Development and Psychology, Film as Art and Medical Terminology, as well as several Advanced Placement classes. Students may also explore extracurricular interests in the Computer Science Club, Earth Action Club, several robotics clubs and the Speech and Debate Team, among others.

Dee Highway connects to Odell, Hood River and Parkdale

Dee Highway, also known as Oregon state Route 281, runs alongside the neighborhood, connecting the community to several others. The highway leads north to Dee and Odell—eventually ending in Hood River—as well as Parkdale in the south. There, it connects to Oregon state Route 235, a faster, more direct route to the city of Hood River. Alternatively, residents can take Old Parkdale Road to reach Parkdale, its restaurants and grocery store. Columbia Area Transit services the region, though residents would have to catch the bus in either Parkdale or Odell to ride it to Hood River.
