Planters Pointe is a walkable neighborhood in high demand
Established in 1997, Planters Pointe is an inviting, walkable neighborhood filled with lush green space, views of the nearby marsh and charming homes. Those perks, combined with the convenience of shopping centers and Charleston beaches, make Planters Pointe desirable to homebuyers. The neighborhood comprises 6 subsections, each with its own price range and housing styles. Because of the breadth of options, Amy Langstone, Realtor with EXP Realty, says, “Inventory in Planters Pointe is always low.”
6 subsections with their own housing styles and price ranges
In the Smokerise subsection, you can find traditional homes with vinyl siding and a brick veneer. Most feature small driveways, as well as greenery and trees, like palms and small oaks. Cotton Creek is a patio home community with small bungalows and Cape Cods sitting on small plots of land. What you’re giving up in size, you’re making up for with access to a peaceful, man-made pond and walking trails connected to the nearby RiverTowne Country Club neighborhood.
Meanwhile, in the Thorne Wood subdivision, a mix of smaller and larger homes with traditional and Craftsman-style features sitting on slightly elevated lots backed up to the woods surrounding Planters Pointe. “Homes in these subdivisions can start around $520,000,” says Langstone. Both the High Marsh and Saltwood subsections are made up of homes sitting on slightly larger lots. The homes in High Marsh have more traditional features with a brick façade and vinyl siding. Front-porch living is common here, and with some homes in High Marsh and Saltwood situated on the marsh nearby, the prices are slightly higher, around $600,000. The more expensive subsection of Planters Point is called Indigo Chase, where homes start at $700,000. Many are elevated, coastal-style homes with cement siding and can sit on lots as large as a half-acre with serene views of the marsh. Langstone says, “The nice feature about this subdivision is the golf cart trail which leads to the amenities at the main entrance of Planters Pointe.”
Clubhouse amenities as well as parks and local recreation center
The amenities at the Planters Pointe clubhouse sit just off Highway 41. Homebuyers will have access to the Olympic-sized pool, tennis courts, basketball goals and playground. Regardless of subdivision, the entire neighborhood is filled with spacious sidewalks, allowing you to get outdoors and enjoy the fresh air and lush greenery around you. Langstone says, “Some paths that go through the neighborhood have fitness equipment sitting beside them, which you don’t typically see.”
Whether you’re looking for outdoor or indoor adventure, you can find it nearby at Laurel Hill County Park and the Park West Recreation Center. Miles of unpaved walking trails with gorgeous backdrops are open to the public at Laurel Hill County Park. The 745-acre park is full of scenic nature, including a small lake and large open meadows. Park West Recreation Complex features just about every sport imaginable. There are two lighted tennis courts, baseball, football and soccer fields, an outdoor volleyball court and a small lake pavilion for fishing.
Planters Pointe schools have high ratings and scenic surroundings
Laurel Hill Primary School, Charles Pinckney Elementary School and Thomas C. Cario Middle School are part of a three-school campus surrounded by the woods of Laurel Hill County Park. Each has a rating of B+ or higher on Niche.com. Thomas C. Cario’s orchestra program is well-known and performs in festivals across other states, including North Carolina and Florida. Wando High School, named after the nearby Wando River, was rebuilt in 2004 to accommodate the growth of the Mt. Pleasant area.
Grocery shopping and local dining just of Highway 41
Finding grocery options is a breeze here, with a Harris Teeter and a Lowes Foods sitting within a mile of the neighborhood. Both are just off Highway 41, and the small town centers they’re housed in also feature a few local restaurants. You can sit at the bar or the two-person tables at Fuji Sushi for a laid-back dinner or head next door to Agaves Cantina to sit outside under umbrellas and enjoy seafood nachos and a margarita.
Planters Pointe is about 30 minutes from Charleston via Highway 41
With Highway 41 sitting along the neighborhood’s entrance, it's easy for residents to reach downtown Charleston in about 30 minutes and beaches on the Isle of Palms in 15 minutes. You can retreat from the action and return to what Langford describes as “a really welcoming community.”
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data.
