For many residents, there’s little difference between living in the village of Mount Pleasant and the city of Racine. “It’s interesting because anyone living east of Interstate 94 is in Racine County. It’s always been like that growing up — we are all from Racine,” says George Baumgardt, Parks and Recreation Manager of the Village of Mount Pleasant. “Besides street color signs, we all share the same people.” However, Mount Pleasant has set itself apart, as tech giant Microsoft is investing $3.3 billion in a new data center campus. Once the project is completed, the campus will create enough jobs to make it the leading employer in the area. Community involvement is also key in this city, as it participates in National Night Out, an annual event that promotes the partnership between police and the local community.

Summer, cost-effective programs offered at Mount Pleasant parks
Parks in the village of Mount Pleasant feature over 300 acres of greenspace that include baseball diamonds, trails, and shelters for picnics. “The most popular is the Campus Park, a 45-acre park that has something for everyone, especially in the summertime,” says Baumgardt. The parks department offers several summer recreation opportunities, from slow-pitch softball to kickball. “The cost is nominal as we are donations, sponsorships, and public funds heavy in mitigating any costs for youth programs," says Baumgardt. Along the Pike River, centrally located within the Village from north to south, lies a corridor with fishing areas, leading to a multi-use 6.5-mile trail accessible to all Mount Pleasant residents.

RYDE Racine connects locals throughout city
Bus stops are scattered throughout Mount Pleasant, courtesy of RYDE Racine, the county’s central public transportation hub. Despite the vast greenspace in this community, residents will find most Route 7 stops near shopping centers, specifically on Durand Avenue, the city’s main thoroughfare. This bus line takes locals east into downtown Racine. Ascension All Saints’ main campus, the nearest hospital, is four miles northeast, while Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport is 20 miles to the north. Mount Pleasant residents should also be aware of Union Pacific freight trains that run through the city's heart, which may bring traffic and unwanted noise.
Low crime and environmental concerns
According to the FBI Crime Data Explorer, Mount Pleasant's violent and property crime rates have been at or below state and national rates for the last five years. Due to the city's proximity to Lake Michigan, residents should expect flood warnings during wet conditions and could see bursts of lake-effect snowfall throughout the winters.
