Moyock offers new subdivisions close to outdoor recreation

Acres of farmland are broken up by modern subdivisions in Moyock, just across the Virginia-North Carolina state line in the northernmost part of Currituck County. While most of the homes here are new, the area was settled in the late 1600s. Farms dominated its early industry, but the Currituck Inlet made it a port town that attracted oil and packaging companies throughout the 1800s. The inlet closed around the mid-1800s as the coast’s landscape changed, leading to a renewed focus on agriculture. The further development of Hampton Roads to the north and the Outer Banks to the south has played a part in the region’s growth as a residential community. “It’s definitely got a small-town feel still, but it's only a short drive from the big cities,” says Kara Evalenko, broker for Real Broker, and a Moyock local who's been selling homes in the area for eight years.

Modern home styles starting in the $400,000s

There are a few subdivisions with older colonials and ranch-style homes, but most houses are contemporaries built in the past 25 years. Homes are neatly arranged with modest yards and driveways, and most have attached garages. Homes here typically sell for $400,000 to $800,000. “You get more land, and you get more bang for your buck,” says Evalenko. Townhome communities like Shingle Landing Villas usually range from $300,000 to $400,000.
