A Mundelein community just east of center
Mundelein Station is home to Hanrahan Park, direct access to trails like the 8-mile North Shore Bike Path, and is zoned for several A-graded schools. But, with Mundelein Metra Station blocks from many homes and downtown about a mile away, urban convenience is accessible. “It’s a good mix of being kind of outside the big city and close to a lot of the things in the more ‘country’ areas that Illinois and Wisconsin offer—but it’s still fairly easy to commute to Chicago,” says Laura Forman, Realtor with Compass Real Estate who helps homebuyers and sellers in Mundelein.
Mundelein’s older housing stock
Mundelein Station is a blend of midcentury homes and newer constructions from the 1990s. Winding neighborhood streets are lined with sidewalks and streetlights. Front yards with stone-bordered gardens, neatly trimmed shrubs and ornamental trees are common.
Longstanding homes sell from $290,000 to $390,000, while recent sales of larger, Colonial styles with attached two- to three-car garages range from $480,000 to $540,000. Demand is high with homes averaging 12 days on the market, far less than the national average of 44. Further, prices are up 19% over the previous year.

Walking to Hanrahan Park or taking the boat down to Diamond Lake
Hanrahan Park is off Noel Drive at the center of the community and directly behind many residences. Within the park are a baseball diamond, playground and tennis court, and its walking path connects east to Libertyville’s sun-washed Butterfield Road prairie path. In the north of the neighborhood, North Shore Bike Path begins its 8-mile trail eastward, linking to wider suburban trail systems and, eventually, the Wisconsin border.
Mundelein's Lake County location means Chain O’Lakes is about 15 miles north. There are options closer to home, like Diamond Lake Beach. This swimming hole has a pier and playground in the sand and is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Metra connections downtown or to nearby Chicago suburbs
Nearby U.S. Route 45, Route 176, and residential streets accommodate most local transportation needs to get downtown, to Advocate Condell Medical Center, 3 miles away, and other Libertyville staples. Interstate 94 and 294 toll roads lead 40 miles to the Windy City, and Metra's North Central Service Line connects Mundelein Station to Chicago and Chicago O’Hare International Airport, 26 miles away. There is a pedestrian bridge to the station and daily parking for a fee. “You can drive, but there's so much traffic to and from Chicago," Forman says. “Most people out in this area actually stick within the different suburbs like Deerfield or Arlington Heights since they each have their industries.”

Mundelein’s restaurants and big-box grocers
Shopping and dining are available within a couple of miles of the neighborhood. Close to home is Luke's of Mundelein, a no-frills sandwich shop with red and white checkered tables that serves burgers, Italian beef and Chicago-style hot dogs. Near the train station, Taste of Paris lives up to its name, serving crepes, quiche, and other French favorites. Tighthead Brewing Company is also there. Open since 2011, the taproom regularly hosts food trucks, live music and other events. Across the train tracks, U.S. Route 45 has shopping strips and locally owned businesses. Jewel-Osco, Garden Fresh Market and chain restaurants like Panera Bread are at the corner of Route 45 and Route 60. "There's a great breakfast place there we go to a lot called Elly’s Brunch & Cafe, it’s super popular but it’s actually pretty easy to get in,” Forman says. He also recommends a couple of dining spots a little over a mile from the neighborhood. "Bill’s Pizza & Pub, which is right on Diamond Lake, is an iconic restaurant,” Forman says of the log cabin-themed haunt. Downtown, he suggests Tina G's. “In the warm weather, they shut down the street to traffic and do outdoor dining." Downtown Libertyville to the east and Grayslake to the north provide more areas for walkable shopping.
