While there are no parks in East Muskegon, community green spaces are a short drive away. One of the closest options is Johnny O. Harris Memorial Park, about a mile and a half from East Muskegon, where people can go for a stroll on the boardwalk by Little Black Creek or have fun on the playground. Sheldon Park is also about a mile and a half away, featuring three ball diamonds used by the Muskegon East Little League, and a playground installed in 2024. For some indoor fun, kids can bounce around at Sky Zone Trampoline Park in one of the shopping centers.High school football champions
Muskegon Public Schools offers a school-choice program for elementary students. The closest option is Oakview Elementary School, which earns a C-minus grade from Niche. Students go on to Charles Hackley Middle School, which has yet to be graded since opening in 2024. Muskegon High School gets a C-plus. Public buses are operated by Muskegon Area Transit System on the neighborhood’s main roads taking riders all over the city. Downtown and Muskegon Lake are less than 3 miles away. It’s also less than 7 miles to Pere Marquette Park, the city’s most prominent beach on Lake Michigan. U.S. 31 goes right through East Muskegon, which runs north and south along Michigan's western edge. It also leads to Muskegon County Airport, about 7 miles south. The airport offers 30-minute flights to Chicago O’Hare International Airport.Muskegon and Muskegon Heights join forces to curb violent crime
Muskegon Heights's overall CAP crime score is 7 out of 10, compared to the national average of 4. Homicide, which scores a 10 of 10, is one of the leading issues. In September 2024, Muskegon Heights and Muskegon announced they would be forming a task force to curb violent crime in the two cities.
