A community of modest homes, industrial jobs and commercial activity
As the name suggests, East Muskegon is the easternmost neighborhood of Muskegon, right next to the small city of Muskegon Heights. The four corners of the neighborhood are broken out into different sections. The northwest corner is the residential segment – a subdivision with around 200 single-family homes with a median price of $98,000. Because these are some of the lowest-priced homes in the city, it’s a common place for first-time homebuyers to settle down. “A lot of families live here,” says Terry Puffer, a local Realtor and team lead with Five Star Real Estate. “If you have kids, it’s a great spot because your neighbor will most likely have kids, too.” The northeast corner of the neighborhood is known as Industrial Row, home to many of the city’s manufacturing plants. Trinity Health Muskegon Hospital and connected medical offices take up the southwest corner of the neighborhood while shopping centers in the southeast corner offer convenience to stores and restaurants.
East Muskegon is only a few minutes from downtown Muskegon and Lake Michigan.
Trinity Health is the largest employer in the area surrounding East Muskegon.

Some of the cheapest houses in Muskegon
The residential section of East Muskegon is primarily made up of bungalows from the early 1900s and ranch-style homes from the mid-1900s. There’s also the occasional house with Dutch Colonial Revival architecture. These homes generally have two to three bedrooms and range from 700 to 900 square feet. Most homes are built on around an eighth of an acre with surrounding trees and greenery. Many of those lots also sit empty. Renovated homes range from $75,000 to $150,000. Those in need of renovations sell for as low as $45,000.

National chains on Sherman Boulevard, local restaurants on Laketon Avenue
Most of the neighborhood’s commercial activity is on Sherman Boulevard to the south and Laketon Avenue to the north. Two shopping centers are across the street from each other on Sherman Boulevard with big box retailers such as Walmart, Lowe’s and Ollie’s Bargain Outlet. This area also has several national chain restaurants. More local restaurants can be found on Laketon Avenue. Mr. Quick Drive Thru is a well-established Muskegon chain, which has been serving milk shakes, burgers, hot dogs and other American classics since 1962. Dog House Saloon is another local favorite, where friends go to hang out until midnight eating bar food, playing pool and singing karaoke on Friday and Saturday nights.
