Preserved small-town charm in lower New York state
Myers Corner is a mostly rural community with homes on large lots just minutes from shopping hubs. A hamlet in the town of Wappinger, the area was settled by the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1659, and it quickly became a significant agricultural community. By the late 1800s, Wappinger was home to nearly 30 factories. Today, the town has preserved its small-town charm while still offering major employment opportunities and easy access to the rest of the state. “It’s a beautiful area that seems like it’s out of the way, but it’s still connected to major highways,” says Jose Santos, a Real Estate Salesperson with K Fortuna Lighthouse Realty, who’s been selling homes here for over a decade.
Major employers in greater Dutchess County include IBM and the Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation. The area is also around two hours north of New York City, which is home to offices for 65 Fortune 500 companies.

Homebuyers can find cottages and ranch-style homes from the mid- to late-1900s, as well as newly built contemporary styles. Properties often feature large yards with driveways and, occasionally, attached garages. Single-family homes tend to stay on the market for about two months and sell for a median price of $510,000, which is above the state and national median.

Commuting on U.S. Route 9, bus, train
Myers Corner is car-dependent because of its rural layout. U.S. Route 9 borders the area, running 7 miles north to Poughkeepsie and 50 miles south to Yonkers. Dutchess County also runs a bus service, with the A-Line along Route 9 offering daily routes to Poughkeepsie’s train station. Poughkeepsie’s train runs 60 miles south with a direct connection to Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan. “Despite the distance, a lot of people here still commute to the city for work,” says Santos. Montefiore St. Luke's Cornwall, the closest hospital, is 10 miles west across the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge. The closest major airport, New York Stewart International, is less than 15 miles south.
