Arcadian Shores offers a suburban feel close to the beach
The community of Arcadian Shores in Myrtle Beach offers a wide range of housing options near water, whether it’s the Atlantic Ocean, the Intracoastal Waterway or the area’s many tranquil marshes. A mix of full-time and part-time residents call the community home, drawn to the area’s suburban, tight-knit feel and proximity to the Arcadian Shores Golf Club, beaches and shopping at Tanger Outlets.

Housing options include single-family homes and condos
While some of the area has Myrtle Beach’s typical high-rise condo complexes along the coast, Arcadian Shores’s claim to fame is its established, residential streets lined with single-family homes located between King’s Road and Lakeshore Drive. Most homes here are ranch-style, though it’s possible to find other designs like Colonial Revival and Cape Cod. They sit on spacious grass lawns and are flanked by mature trees. “I feel like it’s a hidden gem,” says Amy Chavis, a Realtor with eXp Realty who sells throughout the coastal North and South Carolina areas. “I think there’s a misconception that all of Myrtle Beach is touristy but Arcadian Shores isn’t. People don’t realize there are these laid-back residential areas with large lots and unique homes.”
Other parts of the larger Arcadian Shores community include brick New Traditional style estates and condos in mid-sized complexes near the Arcadian Shores Golf Course and Intracoastal Waterway.
The median sale price for single family homes is around $600,000. HOA fees vary by location; some sections of the residential areas have HOAs while others don’t. Condo complexes do have monthly HOA fees that cover things like pool service, water and sewer service and trash pickup. Regarding crime, Arcadian Shores scores 2 out of 10 on the CAP Index, two points lower than the national average. Flood insurance is required in some parts of Arcadian Shores and is optional in others, based on FEMA maps. “It’s important to talk to your realtor about it,” Chavis says.

Residents get around on foot, golf cart or Kings Highway
For many residents, Arcadian Shores is close enough to the beach that they can walk or ride their bikes there. Golf carts are another option for some; rules around cart usage vary throughout the community.
For getting around the rest of Myrtle Beach, residents take Kings Highway, a major thoroughfare that runs along the neighborhood’s north side. It travels to Grand Strand Medical Center, the closest hospital, within 5 miles of the neighborhood, and to downtown Myrtle Beach, about 10 miles away. Myrtle Beach International Airport is about 13 miles in the same direction.
Outdoor activities include golf, fishing and beach trips
Arcadian Shores Golf Club’s 18-hole course is the marquee attraction to the area for many residents. “We have a lot of golfers who come here,” Chavis says. The club is semi-private. If residents want to join a private club, The Dunes Golf & Beach Club is about 5 miles from most parts of the neighborhood. Along with going to the beach, residents can fish for flounder, sea bass, and snapper off Apache Pier, the longest wooden pier on the East Coast.

Kings Highway has shopping, Shore Drive has dining
For running errands, Kings Highway is a go-to for:
Big box stores like Walmart Supercenter
Major shopping centers
Grocery stores like Kroger
Another shopping hotspot is Tanger Outlets, which takes up the neighborhood’s northeastern corner and has over 100 stores, including Lululemon, Ulta Beauty and Old Navy.
Residents also head to Kings Highway, nicknamed Restaurant Row, to dine out at seafood restaurants, steakhouses and hibachi spots. It can be busy with tourists, especially during the summer, so residents often steer clear and choose locally owned restaurants like Harry the Hats, which serves wings and burgers; Flip Flops, a laid-back bar offering pub grub; and Ocean Annie’s, a lively beachfront tavern. “All three of those are in the Shore Drive area of Arcadian Shores,” Chavis says.
