Myrtlewood is a Myrtle Beach neighborhood just north of downtown that offers a diverse range of housing options, ranging from condos overlooking the Myrtlewood Golf Club to large custom single-family homes along the Intracoastal Waterway. Residents enjoy proximity to Broadway at the Beach, a sprawling outdoor shopping, dining and entertainment hub, parks, essentials and the city’s sandy beaches.

Housing options include The Cloisters, condos and waterfront estates

Myrtlewood is made up of subdivisions, each with their own unique style and HOA regulations—or lack thereof. Magnolia consists of condo complexes backing up to the fairways at Myrtlewood Golf Course. These one-, two- and three-bedroom units are often used as vacation homes and short-term rentals, with HOA fees that pay for amenities like community pools, walking trails and clubhouses. Most parking is in outdoor lots, but some units come with one-car garages. “The garages are a big perk,” says Larisa Esmat, a Realtor with Innovate Real Estate who sells throughout Horry County and the Georgetown area. “They can be bought separately, but the caveat is that you have to own a condo to [buy one].”

Other subdivisions include:

  • The Cloisters at Myrtlewood, which features Coastal Cottage-style single-family homes painted in candy-colored pastels. Houses sit close together on landscaped lots along narrow residential roads. Short-term rentals are okay here, and HOA fees pay for ser
  • The Landing, which has single-family homes in ranch-style, Cape Cod and Colonial Revival designs. Both long- and short-term rentals are allowed here, and there is no HOA.
  • Plantation Point’s properties are large, custom New Traditional style homes that sit on spacious manicured lawns with grass and tall trees. Backyards often feature private boat docks and views of the Intracoastal Waterway. The subdivision is HOA-free.
The median prices in Myrtlewood are around $470,000 for single-family homes, and around $280,000 for condos and townhouses. The neighborhood is in a special hazard area according to FEMA’s flood map, so insurance is either required or strongly recommended, depending on your home’s location. Regarding crime, Myrtlewood rates 2 out of 10 on the CAP Index, two points lower than the national average.

Golf, parks, trails and the beach offer plenty of outdoor fun

The main outdoor recreation spot in the neighborhood is the Myrtlewood Golf Club, which has two public 18-hole courses: Palmetto and PineHills. Both courses weave around oak and willow trees with views of the Intracoastal Waterway. Several other golf courses are within a few miles of the neighborhood. The closest public beach access point is on 40th Avenue, a little over 2 miles away. Claire Chapin Epps Family YMCA, on Myrtlewood’s eastern side, has a fitness center, an indoor pool and basketball courts. Next door, dogs can run around the 3-acre Barc Parc North. Horry County Bike & Run Park is also nearby and offers 7 miles of forested trails.

U.S. Route 17 connects residents to the hospital and major roads

While there is some public bus service in the city, there are no stops close to Myrtlewood, so residents primarily get around by car. U.S. Route 17 runs along the neighborhood’s south side and connects to nearby Grand Strand Medical Center and other major roadways throughout the city. Myrtle Beach International Airport is about 8 miles away.

Close to Broadway at the Beach and everyday essentials

One of the bigger perks of Myrtlewood’s location is its proximity to Broadway at the Beach, a Downtown Disney-style outdoor mall with dozens of popular restaurants, retailers and entertainment like TopGolf and Ripley’s Aquarium. “I’ve been to the aquarium in Atlanta, and ours is better,” Esmat says.

Myrtlewood is also close to:

  • Tanger Outlets, which has over 100 name-brand stores, including Bath and Body Works and Lululemon.
  • The shopping center off Caroline Bays Parkway, home to Food Lion and restaurants serving Mexican dishes, pizza and seafood.
  • Downtown Myrtle Beach, where the boardwalk is lined with ice cream shops, souvenir stores and amusement park rides.
