Myrtlewood is a quiet golf course community

On the southern shore of the Intercoastal Waterway, Myrtlewood offers a peaceful lifestyle removed from Myrtle Beach’s more bustling tourist destinations. Locals can join the Myrtlewood Golf Club, which has two 18-hole courses stretching behind single-family homes and condos. “There’s really nothing in the neighborhood but the golf course and houses,” says Elliot Serral, a Realtor with eXp Realty who is also a lifelong Myrtle Beach resident. “People move here because it’s quiet, and tourists have no reason to visit unless they book a tee time.” The neighborhood is still conveniently located with U.S. Route 17, locally known as Kings Highway, stretching along its southern edge. And when locals want to visit Myrtle Beach’s 60-mile-long sandy shoreline, public access is just 2 miles south.

Condos and single-family homes

Subdivisions make up Myrtlewood. Early 2000s mid-rise condo complexes back up to the golf course in Magnolia Pointe. Pastel-painted stilt-style houses from the 2010s line The Cloisters at Myrtlewood’s winding roads. The Landing has ranch-style houses circa the 1970s and ‘80s. Some custom-built New Traditional homes in Plantation Point sit along the Intercoastal Waterway with private boat slips and docks. Condos prices range from about $150,000 to around $300,000. Older single-family homes can cost between $200,000 and $350,000, while newer properties can go for anywhere between $450,000 and $2.5 million. Rising tides and tropical storms may cause the Intercoastal Waterway to overflow, so some homes here may require flood insurance.

Myrtlewood Golf Club has several restaurants

Myrtlewood Golf Club has two 18-hole courses: Palmetto and PineHills. Both courses weave around oak and willow trees with views of the Intercoastal Waterway. On the Palmetto Course, golfers can stop by The Dog House, a blue shack with specialty hot dogs. The neoclassical-style clubhouse is home to the Waterway Pub & Grill, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Club membership isn’t required to live in Myrtlewood, but Serral says most locals join. “Because Myrtlewood isn’t on the beach, the golf club is the major selling point here.” There’s a one-time initiation fee of $4,0000, and monthly dues range from $145 to $230, depending on the membership plan.

Kings Highway isn’t super busy near Myrtlewood

Stores and restaurants surround Kings Highway on the neighborhood’s southern border. Locals can grab groceries from Food Lion or go to fast-food places like McDonald’s. Though the highway can be traffic-heavy, Serral says it’s not super busy near Myrtlewood. “There’s always some sort of congestion on Kings Highway during the summer,” he says. “But there’s a lot less shopping and dining near Myrtlewood, so it’s not as bad as driving around the Tanger Outlets area.” Tanger Outlets, 7 miles north, has over 100 name-brand stores, including Adidas, Lululemon and Ulta Beauty. In the same area, the highway earns the nickname Restaurant Row, home to steakhouses, seafood buffets and Japanese eateries. The neighborhood is less than 5 miles northeast of downtown Myrtle Beach, where the boardwalk is lined with ice cream shops, souvenir shops and amusement park rides.
