Green Acres
Suburban Neighborhood in Naperville, Illinois
DuPage County 60540
Sprawling estates are commonly seen
While there is a certain lushness that’s almost rural in the streetscapes of Green Acres, housing styles lean towards the luxurious. True, it’s possible to find a two-bedroom midcentury home for around $400,000 – but that’s not the norm. Home sale prices in Green Acres typically range from $1.2 million to $3.2 million. At the early end of that range homebuyers can find three-bed, three-bath modern farmhouses. In the middle, homebuyers can expect to see properties like a five-bed, eight-bath McKeown Built Luxury Home with a four-car garage sitting on a spacious lot. At the upper reaches of the market are French Provincial estates, which can come in the form of a six-bed, eight-bath property offering over 7,600 square feet of living space. It’s not uncommon for some of these homes to have a coach house or guest residence that connects to the main house.Interconnected park spaces
The center of Green Acres is a connected collection of various green spaces with different uses. With a name like Naperville Sportsman’s Park, there’s opportunity for activity in this neighborhood: visitors check in at the clubhouse and then conduct target practice on clay disks. Knoch Park features a modern playground, ball fields, tennis courts and multipurpose trails. Across the street is Idea Gardens, where local flowers are grown to attract butterflies. There’s also the Ron Ory Community Garden Plots, where residents who like to garden can sign up with the Naperville Recreation Department and pay a small annual fee for a plot of their own where they can grow food or flowers.Abundant extracurriculars at Naperville Central High
Elmwood Elementary is just southeast of the neighborhood and receives an A-plus rating from Niche. The school features a 16-to-1 student-to-teacher ratio. Lincoln Junior High is also southeast of the neighborhood and likewise receives an A-plus. The school hosts a Career Exploration Day for eighth graders, during which students can connect with area businesses representing multiple careers. Naperville Central High is in the northeast corner of Green Acres and continues the winning streak with an A-plus rating of its own. The school features over 60 extracurricular clubs and activities for students, including a human rights club, a culinary club and online sports club. All Saints Catholic Academy is northwest of the neighborhood and offers a private education option for students in kindergarten through 8th grade.Close to Route 34
As the neighborhood’s name might suggest, walking is a great way to get around, owing to the abundant park space. West Street is the main thoroughfare running through the center of Green Acres, which most of the residential roads fork off from. Residents can take this up to Aurora Avenue, which is the neighborhood’s major east-west road, and then connect to Route 34’s commercial amenities. Running in parallel to Route 34 are several Metra stops that commuters can use. Interstate 88 is also nearby.Small cafe culture, but also big box stores
About 3 miles west from Green Acres is the Westridge Court shopping center. Residents can come here to grocery shop at Meijer and explore big box retailers like Best Buy. A sprawling Crate & Barrel outlet store is also part of this complex, as are various fast-food options. Or, shoppers can drive another 3 miles west to pick up ingredients at Jewel-Osco. When it comes to grocery shopping, drive west on Aurora Ave to shop at Jewel-Osco. Locally owned coffee shops and cafes are a big part of the dining scene in Green Acres. At Sparrow Coffee, sleek surfaces reminiscent of an Apple store are decked out with succulent plants and baked goodies. Colonial Café, on the other hand, aims for more of a homestyle approach that serves up coffee alongside old-fashioned diner cuisine. Meanwhile, SpecialTea is a brightly lit bubble tea haven. For an upscale experience, Meson Sabika puts out the white tablecloth for a tapas dinner in a historic mansion.
