South of the Chicago suburb of Naperville
Walking along the neighborhood streets of University Heights in the Chicago suburb of Naperville, it may become apparent how the neighborhood got its name. "I live here, and the best thing I can think of is that many of the streets are named after universities," says Chris Grano, a Keller Williams Realty Infinity broker. Street names include Villanova Avenue, named after a school in Philadelphia or Duke Drive for the school in Durham, North Carolina. There are two private universities within 5 miles of the neighborhood, North Central College and Benedictine University, a Catholic school. "There is no HOA, and that's one of the best things about living here," he adds. People also like the neighborhood for its access to top-notch schools.

Greene Valley Forest Preserve
Not every suburban neighborhood is close to a nearly 1,400-acre forest preserve. Greene Valley has 14 miles of marked trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding or even skiing in the winter. A nearly 200-foot scenic overlook that was once a landfill is where views of the surrounding area can be enjoyed on Saturdays and Sundays from May through October. On a clear day, a glimpse of the downtown Chicago skyline could be seen 30 miles to the east. Dogs can frolic in the off-leash area of the dog park, with separate areas for large and small breeds. For recreation within the neighborhood, Stanford Meadows Park has an open space where a neighborhood soccer or football game could happen. There are parking spaces on River Oaks Drive close to the playground and the small picnic shelter at University Heights Park. There is also open green space in Campus Greens Park, behind Meadow Glens Elementary. “Even though it’s not in the neighborhood, many in University Heights are members at Farmstead Swim & Racquet Club,” Grano says. It’s in the nearby Farmstead subdivision.

A small shopping center off Wehrli Road is a hangout during the summer. “At least once, the shopping center is where kids and their families can watch a movie right there in the parking lot,” Grano says. Little Pops NY Pizzeria is in the shopping center and specializes in thin crust and wide slices, usually folded in classic New York style.
