West Highlands
Suburban Neighborhood in Naperville, Illinois
DuPage County 60540
Postwar split levels to modern farmhouses
"I've seen Naperville grow from nothing to the metropolis it's become," says Evelyn Fred, a Chicago-area Realtor with Baird & Warner and 17 years of experience. Despite that growth, the housing market remains affordable for various incomes. Home prices start around $350,000 and reach up to $1.5 million. At the lower end, postwar ranch-style homes seem like a natural feature of the broad streets shaded by old-growth maples and oaks. Postwar split levels are available for under $600,000; many have been remodeled. At the upper end of the market are palatial neo-colonials, Tudor-inspired mansions, and modern farmhouses.Naperville Community Unit School District 203
West Highlands is part of the acclaimed Naperville Community Unit School District 203, which is excellent in sports and academics. Niche ranked CUSD 203 the 2nd best district in the state for athletics and 10th best overall, out of 416. For primary school, students attend Elmwood Elementary School, which received an A grade on Niche. Secondary students attend Lincoln Junior High School, which received an A, and Naperville Central High School, which received an A-plus. Naperville Central has its own literary magazine and an active theater program, and its Redhawks are consistent state champs in several sports. In 2010, Kenny Chesney wrote a song about the football team entitled "The Boys of Fall."Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve and Endeavor Health Edward Hospital
Gartner Park has open fields, sports courts, and mulched play areas in a playground renovated in 2023. "The Gartner Park renovation was done through community outreach, and the park now has an inclusive play area," says Eric Shutes, Director of Planning for Naperville Parks. Various bike trails connect from Gartner Park to the 1,800-acre Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve, which begins on the southern edge of West Highlands and features over 7 miles of trails. Pioneer Park is an 18-acre floodplain a block east; hikers may encounter native birds such as downy woodpeckers and white-breasted nuthatches. On the grounds is the historic monument Hobson's Stones. Sunny Island in the DuPage River is also an extension of Pioneer Park and can be accessed by an enchanting footbridge. On the north of West Highlands, Ron Ory Community Garden Plots has over 430 gardening plots for rent. Next door, Endeavor Health Edward Hospital has an emergency room. The Naperville Metra Station
The Naperville Metra Station is 1.5 miles north of West Highlands. The ride from Naperville to Union Station in Downtown Chicago takes about an hour. Naperville Road takes commuters to Interstate 88, which leads straight downtown. With the city's vision of inclusive and community-oriented development, a growing restaurant scene and miles of green space, Naperville neighborhoods like West Highlands are only becoming more popular.Pho Tien Vietnamese
West Highlands' own Pho Tien Vietnamese restaurant was named "Chef's Choice" by Chicago Tribune food critics. The shopping center also has a bubble tea shop and the Naperville Fresh Market, a local grocery store for organic produce and meats. Otherwise, locals drive or walk to South Washington Street on the east border of the locality, where most food spots are located. Colonial Café serves classic American cuisine. Brown Bag Seafood Co. gets packed for lunch when locals order lobster rolls, curry fish cakes or veggie options like spicy sesame cauliflower. Next door, Deccan Spice traditional dishes rooted in Southern Indian spices. Trader Joe's is on the same block. "The city is constantly evolving with new restaurants, locally owned boutiques and new housing options," says Kelley Munch, Senior Communications Specialist with the City of Naperville."
