A walkable neighborhood bordering the prairie
West Wind is a primarily residential neighborhood just north of Springbrook Prairie, an expansive nature preserve within walking distance of residents. Less than 3 miles from Downtown Naperville, the parks district protects the prairie to prevent any future development. Subdivisions surrounding it are often comprised of custom and traditional homes, where winding cul-de-sacs are safe and walkable. “Even though Naperville is huge, you get used to that neighborhood feel where all the houses are different, and there aren’t any HOAs,” explains Bridget Salela, a broker with The Ville Team at Coldwell Banker. “Families can expect to find other kids just a couple blocks away. That’s what I love about the area.”
West Wind is located in the west suburbs of Chicago.

Community-oriented subdivisions in West Wind
Though West Wind is predominantly packed with single-family subdivisions, townhomes flank the northeast and south corridors of Rickert Drive. The traditional architecture of The Fields matches that of Estes Park, with both communities offering amenities like attached, two-car garages. Homebuyers can expect a price range of $280,000 to $500,000, with those on the higher end offering more than 1,600 square feet. Meanwhile, the single-family homes of West Wind Estates vary between traditional architecture and custom designs priced between $450,000 and $800,000. Though properties are no less than 30 feet apart, each offers a maintained, square lawn extending to a wide sidewalk. Biking and walkability are particularly safe considering West Wind’s CAP Index Crime Score of 1, compared to the national average of 4. Many even opt for front yard recreation. Soccer nets and basketball hoops often occupy paved driveways in the warmer months.
Mature trees provide shade for West Wind residents.

Living next door to Springbrook Prairie
“One of the greatest parts about living in Naperville is the parks,” says Kelley Munch, Senior Communications Specialist with the city of Naperville. “Residents not only enjoy our green spaces, but they respect them as well. There are volunteer organizations that keep our outdoor spaces clean, healthy and thriving.” Springbrook Prairie, for example, has approximately 1,800 acres of woodlands, grasslands and aquatic habitats just south of West Wind. The preserve regularly attracts residents for its trails, dog park and 18-hole championship golf course. May Watts Park sits just north, where youth softball leagues gather in the spring. Situated next door to the elementary school, residents are within walking distance of the playground, ball courts and fields. Knoch Park shares land with Naperville Sportsman’s Park, divided by West Street. There, the Ron Ory Community Garden provides 560 rentable plots, while others opt to design and maintain plots at the nearby Idea Gardens. Pickleball courts are, of course, an added bonus.

Reaching Downtown Chicago by Metra
Though Naperville’s Metra is equidistant from Route 59’s Metra, the latter offers ample parking, making it more appealing for commuters. Riders can expect an hour-long commute to Downtown Chicago, while drivers head 36 miles east on Interstates 290 and 88. Chicago Midway International Airport is about 30 miles east on I-55. Homebuyers should note that there is no direct Metra heading to the airport.
