Westglen is a “wave to your neighbor” community
Westglen is a residential enclave just 3 miles south of Downtown Naperville, comprised of curving residential streets that Sue McGuire describes as Americana. “I walk the neighborhood every morning. There are kids on bikes and people out with their dogs or going for runs,” she says, herself a nearby resident and Realtor with Baird & Warner. “It’s very friendly; a wave-to-your-neighbor kind of community. I’ve lived here for 18 years, so I appreciate the melting pot of people from all walks and backgrounds.” The neighborhood’s voluntary homeowners association hosts everything from Easter egg hunts to back-to-school events, while the greater Naperville area is known for its own summer festivals and markets. With a moderate price range, walkable schools and sprawling parks nearby, Westglen is an easy-going neighborhood with plenty to offer.
Ranch-style homes and Colonial Revivals in a moderate price range
Westglen’s curved residential streets are outlined with spacious, well-kept yards. Ranch-style homes and snout houses neighbor Colonial Revivals, ranging in price from $320,000 to $600,000. “Even in the current housing market, it’s very affordable to live in the neighborhood,” says Penny O’Brien, a local Realtor with Baird & Warner, noting the slightly below-average home prices. “It’s very community-oriented while remaining close to Downtown Naperville.” With a CAP Index Crime Score of 1—compared to the national average of 4—Westglen is considerably mellow. Fenced-in backyards flaunt patios, pools and trampolines. The sidewalks are flanked by basketball hoops in the driveways paired with attached garages and modest front gardens.
Quiet, tree lined streets with well maintained yards are found throughout Westglen.

A walkable neighborhood park and sprawling prairie next door
Westglen Park rests in the heart of the community, a neighborhood green space with shaded walking paths. The playground and fields are populated with elementary students in the afternoon and dog walkers in the evening, considered “one of the main draws for homebuyers looking to move to the area,” according to O’Brien. Westglen’s bike lanes stretch less than a mile north to Gartner Park, a haven in the winter for its sled hills and ice rink. Over the summer, residents frequent the ball courts and fields bordering 75th Street. Just west is Springbrook Prairie, a sprawling 1,800-acre preserve of woodlands, grasslands and aquatic habitats walkable from Westglen. The prairie’s trails, off-leash dog park and 18-hole championship golf course attract guests from across the region. “Some people on the other side can even access it from their horse farms,” McGuire says. “Runners and walkers, watch out for the horse poop!”

From Naperville to Chicago on the Metra
Westglen residents are largely car-dependent, as the city’s Pace bus service does not offer stops within walking distance. Bike lanes, however, are prominent throughout the city, lining 75th Street, 79th Street and Modaff Road, which heads 3 miles north into Downtown Naperville. There, commuters can take the Metra, which is about an hour’s ride into downtown Chicago from Naperville station. Modaff Road also leads to the nearest emergency room at Endeavor Health Edward Hospital, 2 miles north. Those heading into Aurora can take 75th Street west for 10 miles, while those traveling out-of-state typically fly out of Chicago Midway International Airport, 25 miles east on Interstate 55. Alternatively, many ride the Metra to Union Station and catch the L to the airport.

Finding fresh produce and summertime concerts before The Last Fling
The Naperville Farmer’s Market is held on 5th Avenue each Saturday from June through October. Buzzing with guests browsing locally grown produce and handcrafted items, the market overlaps with Naper Nights Summer Concert Series. This city-wide summertime tradition comprises themed tribute concerts hosted by the Naper Settlement outdoor history museum downtown. Naperville families say “farewell to summer” at The Last Fling, a weekend-long Labor Day festival featuring live music, carnival rides and a parade. “We’re not Chicago, where you’d have hundreds of festivals every weekend, but there’s always something,” McGuire says. “Beginning of summer festivals, end of summer festivals. We’re such a big area, but these events make it feel smaller.”
