Domestic bliss, excellent schools and parks in southwest Naperville
Situated on the southwest side of Naperville, Wheatland South’s comfy mid-sized homes and half-acre lots bring a spacious flair to the suburban lifestyle common to the city. Convenient amenities and neighborly energy flow through the residential lanes here, and residents are also close to not one, but two acclaimed school systems. “The number-one reason to move to Naperville is the schools. No matter which district you end up in they’re all excellent,” says Raelisa Schmidt, a Realtor with HomeSmart Elite Arrow Team. Schmidt has sold homes in Naperville and Chicagoland for more than eight years.
Updated split-levels and large contemporary homes
1970s-era architecture defines the look of most homes in Wheatland South, which sit within subdivisions on lanes and cul-de-sacs. Locals generally live in split-level homes with touches of traditional styling, with many homes bearing cobblestone façades and built-in garages. Many of these properties have contemporary interiors modeled by newer owners. Some ranch-style homes also sit on the weathered residential roads of the area, though sales for these can be rare. Prices generally range from $375,000 to $550,000. Near the area’s Reserve of Naperville subdivision, buyers may also be able to find homes from the mid-2000s with brick exteriors and large square footage. A rare sight on the market, these sell just below or at the $900,000 mark.
Learning from the best at District 204 schools
Public school students in Wheatland South are generally assigned to schools within the Indian Prairie School District 204. The area’s youngest students can attend Oliver Julian Kendall Elementary School, which has a student-teacher ratio of 14:1 and holds an A-plus grade on Niche. Pre-teens attend the A-ranked Clifford Crone Middle School. Neuqua Valley High School offers more than 100 extracurricular and athletic activities for students. The school earns an A-plus grade on Niche and was ranked within the top 20 high schools in Illinois by US News & World Report in 2024.

Mo Tea & Banh Mi serves boba tea and a Vietnamese sandwich menu in a neon-lit setting, while colorful cupcakes and cookies fill the counter at Moose & Me Baking Company, a bake shop with a focus on hiring adults of all ability levels. Most of Wheatland South’s other conveniently accessible shopping and dining options are located just north of the neighborhood, along 95th Street and Illinois Route 59. Along Route 59, Jewel-Osco, Aldi and Amazon Fresh stores each offer groceries and everyday goods. Other recognizable stops nearby include Half Price Books and The UPS Store, with additional general shopping options like Costco and Walmart further north. Dining options include the well-loved deep-dish pies at Giordano’s, breakfast sandwiches from Duck Donuts and Japanese fare from Wild Tuna Contemporary Sushi.
Sports complexes, golf courses and neighborhood parks
Wheatland South sits just south of Frontier Sports Complex, a public park with facilities for various sports. Little League and softball games happen on eight diamonds spread across the park’s west side, while eight multi-purpose fields fill the east end. The park’s offerings include a skate park, walking/biking trails and pickleball courts. Members at the Fry Family YMCA can take swim lessons, enroll in youth programs and join adult fitness sessions. Kids can also enjoy day camps at the Y during the summer. Tamarack Golf Club hosts seasonal brunch meals, socials and charity events for members who can perfect their driving and putting skills on the 18-hole course. And for those searching for a more private neighborhood park, Crestview Knoll keeps things simple with green space, a playground and picnic shelters. “We have great parks and outdoor recreational areas in Naperville. There’s also access to bike trails, which connect neighboring communities,” says Stephen Lohman, long-time resident and president of the Tall Grass Homeowner’s Association. The Tallgrass HOA maintains common areas and playgrounds in the nearby Tall Grass neighborhood.

Important things to know
Naperville’s growth as a community has motivated locals of all backgrounds to build a more welcoming environment for a diversifying population. In 1968, civil rights advocates encouraged the local government to pass laws for desegregation and fair housing in the city, a decision that would inform Naperville’s expansion in the decades to come. Today, people of color make up about 38% of Naperville’s population, up from 17% in 2000 and less than 3% in the 1980s.
