Private luxury in Naples

Between Bonita Springs and Naples in southwest Florida is Mediterra, a relaxed neighborhood specializing in convenient luxury. The area hosts the gated master-planned community, Club at Mediterra, and a newer development, The Enclave of Distinction. At the Club at Mediterra, residents enjoy privacy and seclusion among 1,500 acres of a verdant, well-manicured landscape. With a thousand acres of nature preserve, 8 miles of walking paths and views of fairways and lakes, one of the community's biggest assets is its natural scenery. Many residents can golf from their backyards, and restaurants are just a short drive down South Tamiami Trail.

Luxurious homes and community amenities

The area has two major developments. One of them is the Club at Mediterra, a private gated community with resort-like amenities, including a fitness center with a pool and tennis courts. The community also has a clubhouse with formal and casual dining options. To the north is the intimate Enclave of Distinction, a development with fewer than 30 residences on almost 18 acres. Luxury model homes and custom-made properties range in size from 3,000 to 5,000 square feet. Their architectural styles draw inspiration from Mediterranean estates, with terracotta tiles and light stucco siding. Home prices often range between $1 million and $5 million, though some larger estates may sell for nearly $7 million. Condos and townhouses are also available between $200,000 and nearly $2 million. Those at the top end of the scale are called coach homes, and these may have more than 2,000 square feet of living space.

Butterfly gardens and walking trails at Bonita Nature Preserve

Bonita Nature Preserve is a favorite spot for locals looking to soak up the natural beauty of the area. The preserve is home to a variety of oaks, pines, and wetlands that locals can explore via hiking trails. The onsite nature learning center is right by the butterfly gardens and bat house. Four-legged companions can join the outdoor adventure at a dog-friendly play space, Bonita Springs Bark-N-Play Park, with multi-use paths and washing stations for pups who like to roll in the dirt. The community also hosts the quaint Wonder Gardens—a small zoo with tropical botanicals like bromeliads, fruit trees, orchids and palms. The clubs also offer their own amenities, with fitness centers, golf courses, pools and walking spaces within the developments.

Live music and gulf front retail

Locals have their pick of retail and dining destinations down South Tamiami Trail. The commercial roadway allows residents to visit the many plazas and shopping centers. Locals can pick up groceries at Publix Super Market at Riverchase Shopping Center, where another big-box supercenter sits for other necessities. Jack’s Seafood & Bar is a laid-back spot with karaoke, bingo and live music. The Bay House Restaurant is a more upscale establishment with patio seating overlooking the Cocohatchee River that flows into the gulf. “Many locals will also travel downtown or to Mercato shopping mall to enjoy Azian Cuizine, Rocco's Tacos, and Bar Tulia,” says Lee Willis, a broker at The Willis Group LLC.

Five miles from the beach

Driving 5 miles west, locals can enjoy the shores of Bonito Beach. With the area being car-dependent, there isn’t much public transportation, and downtown Fort Myers sits 25 miles away. Route 41 and Interstate 75 give locals access to Fort Myers and beyond, though with busy Florida traffic, the trip can take anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour.
