Excellent golf courses and upscale communities near downtown Naples
South Naples offers an abundance of private golf communities and shopping centers, meaning convenience is always within driving range and usually just a short chip away. Less than 10 miles from the Old Naples area and the shoreline, the South Naples area comprises several neighborhoods ranging from gated communities to manufactured home subdivisions. A broad range of housing options and proximity to a cluster of country clubs and golf courses attract residents to this area. This area, like most of the Northwest Florida Panhandle, has a high hurricane risk. “Most homes have impact windows that can deal with winds up to like 160 miles per hour. And if they don’t have impact windows, they likely have shutters,” says Sonja Pound, a Realtor with John R. Wood Properties who has lived in the Naples area for over a decade. “That’s just one of the prices of living in paradise, that we have to deal with hurricanes.”
South Naples includes private gated communities with Mediterranean style homes.

The South Naples area is a few miles from the sprawling Lely Resort community, which has several public golf courses. “There’s a Players Club & Spa, three swimming pools, a tiki bar that is super popular on Friday and Saturday nights because there’s live music, a building just for mahjong and bridge and 13 tennis courts. There are social events all the time, and there are all kinds of wine tastings. It’s an active, social community. And it’s very pretty. The landscaping is immaculate,” says Susan DeMaagd, a Realtor with Downing Frye Realty, Inc. The Flamingo Island and Mustang courses are open to the public, while the Classics course, designed by PGA legend Gary Player, is for members only. Nearby, Naples Lakes Country Club is among several bundled golf communities in South Naples. Membership to the golf course comes with the purchase of a home in such communities. The Naples Pickleball Center, located about 3 miles away, is home to a 64-court pickleball complex and a pro shop.
