Una has lakeside living and lower prices in South Nashville

Just 12 miles from Downtown Nashville, the small community of Una offers a mix of modern townhomes and easy access to lakeside recreation. It's often grouped in with Nashville's Antioch suburb, an area known for lower home prices and newer subdivisions. The nearby J. Percy Priest Lake is lined with marinas, swimming beaches and hiking trails, making it a go-to spot for beating Nashville's summer heat. You'll also find trails at Hamilton Creek Recreation Area, plus local restaurants serving everything from Ethiopian coffee to Salvadoran pupusas along Murfreesboro Pike. There's some noise from Nashville International Airport, but if you're after lower prices and lake access, Una is worth a look.

Townhomes are the most common option in Una

Most of Una's housing was built in the early 2000s, so the area feels relatively modern. Townhouses make up a big share of the market, especially in the Nashboro Village community, where New Traditional units back up to a golf course and feature hardwood floors, gas fireplaces and private patios or decks. Townhouse prices run from the lower $200,000s to the lower $300,000s. You'll spot the occasional single-family home, mostly in Bayview Estates, typically priced from the mid-$300,000s to the mid-$400,000s, though more rural properties with acreage can go higher.

Hiking, biking and boating along the shores of J. Percy Priest Lake

In Una, outdoor life revolves around J. Percy Priest Lake, a reservoir spanning over 14,000 acres. "The lake itself is like a little jewel in an urban area," says George Blue, cruising chair at the Percy Priest Yacht Club. Una’s homes are right next to Hamilton Creek Recreation Area, which has a small sandy beach and a playground. Right next door, Hamilton Creek Sailboat Marina is a handy spot for locals to store sailboats, kayaks or paddleboards. Within 5 miles, you can also reach Anderson Road Day Use Area, a popular swimming beach.

The outdoor attractions stretch beyond the shoreline, too. Hamilton Creek Recreation Area offers miles of hiking and mountain biking trails, plus a BMX track maintained by the Music City BMX Association. Una Recreation Park has sports fields and a skatepark, and the public Nashboro Golf Club’s 18-hole course first opened in 1975.

Commutes to downtown Nashville and some nearby airport noise

Although it's only 12 miles to downtown Nashville, the drive along Murfreesboro Pike can take 20 to 40 minutes. As Nashville's south side continues to grow, so does traffic. Flora Love, a Realtor with The Realty Association who has sold homes in the area, says it gets especially congested between 3 and 6 p.m. Most people drive, but WeGo’s Route 55 also runs into downtown. Nashville International Airport is less than 5 miles away, which Love says can make the sound of jet engines "very noticeable." Major employers nearby include Amazon, which has a warehouse next to the airport, and TriStar Southern Hills Medical Center, about 6 miles away.

Events on the water around Percy Priest Lake

Most of the action in this part of Nashville happens around the water. Catch lakeside views at these local events:

  • Dive-In Movie Nights: Watch Friday-night movies while floating at the nearby Nashville Shores water park.
  • Fourth of July at Nashville Shores: A multiday celebration at the water park with hot dog-eating contests and fireworks.
  • Priest Lake Fall Festival: A community block party on Smith Springs Road with live music, food trucks and local vendors.
  • Live music at Shipwreck Cove: This waterside restaurant at Elm Hill Marina hosts regular bands and performances.
