Commuter-friendly Neptune City has shoreside homes and dining

Named for the Roman god of the sea, Neptune City offers Jersey Shore housing for competitive prices just next door to the thriving Jersey Shore beach communities of Bradley Beach and Avon-by-the-Sea. Within Neptune, diverse housing styles and popular restaurants can be found lining its suburban streets, and residents have easy access to both the beach and New York-bound trains, offering homebuyers two of the Shore’s most in-demand features.
Neptune City has its origins in the Gilded Age of the 1880s, when the Jersey Shore was developed into a vast stretch of resort communities for New Yorker and Philadelphian tourists longing for the relaxation and clean air of the sea breeze. While the creation of Avon-by-the-Sea and Bradley Beach deprived Neptune City of its beach access, this town’s proximity to the water continues to be a major draw for residents. This town was once an industrial enter, similar to nearby Long Branch and Asbury Park, but deindustrialization in the 1970s led to the borough’s decline. However, Realtor Meghan Frost of Ward Wright Sotheby’s International Realty says, “It’s one of the best-kept secrets of the Jersey Shore, with direct waterfront properties.” Neptune City’s shoreside location, dining scene, and easy access to the Bradley Beach train station and Route 35 contribute to this city’s continued viability as a commuter suburb of New York.

Less expensive Cape Cod and colonial homes on the Jersey Shore

Neptune City’s housing styles bring out this Jersey Shore borough’s character. Colonial-style homes, popular across the state, can be found in abundance, while Cape Cod bungalows speak to this town’s history as a beach community. Neptune City’s home prices range from $450,000 to $500,000, in line with Monmouth County standards, and yet far more inexpensive than nearby shore communities such as Deal and Bradley Beach.

Local staples like Pete and Elda’s offer familiar laid-back dishes

Though this town is not known to be as busy as the crowded beachfront communities down the road, Neptune City offers its own selection of popular attractions frequented by both locals and visitors alike. One of the most popular restaurants in the town is Pete and Elda’s Bar, a local fixture for over 50 years. This restaurant specializes in Italian American cuisine, from New York-style pizzas to fried calamari, bringing out this restaurant and this town’s seaside flavors. Kelly’s Tavern offers its own cultural experience, inviting visitors into a Tudor-style, Irish-themed pub with Irish classics like shepherd’s pie and corned beef sandwiches filling the menu. For even more restaurant options, Neptune City residents can travel just a few blocks east and check out Bradley Beach’s Main Street.
