Settle in New Cannan, a town full of multi-million dollar homes that's only eight miles from the beaches and views of Connecticut's Gold Coast. The town's wooded landscape shades the streets and provides residents with privacy and greenery. New Canaan's downtown offers residents spots to mingle, shop and eat, "It's a really quaint little town," says Julie Vanderblue, a Realtor with Higgins Group Real Estate. The town's school system, ranked No. 2 in the state by Niche, is one of the big draws for families looking to settle down in the area.

Mansions, colonial homes and villas

Homes in New Canaan tend to come at a high price point – on average, properties go for around $1.8 million. The most expensive homes in town can go for around $15 million. Styles vary from Colonial to farmhouse, and some of the town’s palatial mansions resemble grand villas. Homebuyers looking to start from scratch can buy two to five-acre lots of land for around $1.5 million. "New Canaan has a distinct luxury lifestyle, and homes come at a higher price point," says Vanderblue. Homes at the apex of the price range come with luxury amenities like pools, tennis courts, and vast outdoor seating areas on landscaped grounds.

Eating out in New Canaan

New Canaan's popular downtown area offers residents spots to shop and restaurants to enjoy, all within walking distance of each other. "New Canaan has a really cute little downtown," says Vanderblue. Fall Fair

New Canaan residents can enjoy a variety of events, most of which are posted in the local newspaper, the New Canaanite. The annual Fall Fair is one of the city's most popular events and is now in its 54th year. Located at the New Canaan Nature Center, the fair is a creative and welcoming way to embrace the turn of the season. The two-day event has carnival rides, a zip line, pumpkin carving, and more on its list of activities.

Getting around New Canaan

The city isn't crisscrossed with interstates and is relatively quiet thanks to its location. There are a handful of roads that converge in downtown New Canaan. The nearest major roadway is the Merritt Parkway, about three miles from the center of town. Instead of driving into New York City, many residents favor the hour-and-a-half direct train ride when it comes to traveling into the Big Apple.
