Moon Lake Estates was once nationally known as home to an extensive sportsman’s paradise — the Moon Lake Dude Ranch. The ranch got its start in 1929 and became one of the most expansive game hunting preserves at the time. Today, people more commonly know the area for the beautiful lake it is named after and its scenic adjacent park.

One of the subdivisions in the area, Rose Haven, is a gated community with single-family homes. There are several small lakes and ponds in the neighborhood, in addition to the large Moon Lake, and homes wrap around these bodies of water, providing waterfront views for residents. Home prices in the area range from $60,000 to $750,000.
Children in the area attend Moon Lake Elementary School, which has an overall Niche grade of C-plus. Next, kids attend River Ridge Middle School, which has an overall Niche grade of B and was ranked as the number 16 best public middle school in Pasco County. Teenagers attend River Ridge High School, which has an overall Niche grade of B-plus and was ranked as the number eight best public high school in Pasco County.
Moon Lake and its surrounding Moon Lake Park are the focal point of the neighborhood. The 6.65-acre park is popular with boaters, with a small boat ramp that can be used to launch canoes, kayaks or small powered engine boats. Locals can gather at the park’s two shelters and several picnic tables and enjoy barbeque cooked on the park’s charcoal grills. Many opt to sit by the water and watch ducks and sandhill cranes swim along its surface. There’s a beach area where visitors can swim, though there aren’t any lifeguards, so residents must swim at their own risk. Local anglers enjoy fishing at the lake as a tranquil pastime or playing at the park’s basketball court for some friendly competition.
The Riverwalk Crossings and Riverwalk Plaza shopping centers offer various retail and dining options for residents to enjoy. The Urban Oak Grill and Bar is a nice, sit-down restaurant serving American comfort staples. You’ll also find recognizable fast-casual names like McDonald’s and Zaxby’s Chicken Fingers & Buffalo Wings. Locals can get in their workouts at Iron 24 Fitness and Recovery. When residents need to grab groceries and other household essentials, they head to the nearby Publix Supermarket or ALDI.
Pasco County has its own public transportation system, GoPasco. You’ll find GoPasco Bus Stops throughout the neighborhood, making it easy to get around. Ridge Road, which runs along the neighborhood’s southern edge, gives residents direct access to Highway 589. This means residents can commute to Tampa in under an hour. If living in a suburb with lakeside views sounds appealing, Moon Lake Estates may be worthwhile.
