Settled by Irish farmers, the township of Erin Prairie still maintains its farming community. The area is about 45 miles from Saint Paul and Minneapolis, Minnesota. Off the beaten path, this community of just about 670 people has a definitively rural and agricultural vibe. The historic Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church sits close to the community’s center, and you’ll find farms and plant nurseries scattered throughout. Large expanses of open green space stretch between homes, providing a sense of privacy and seclusion to those who live here. You’ll find colonial revival farmhouses and modern-traditional homes, some with attached multi-vehicle garages. These homes sit on lots with plenty of acreage, often neighboring protected land or corn fields. Home prices in the area range from $550,000 to $775,000.

Children in the community attend New Richmond Hillside Elementary School, which has an overall Niche grade of B-plus. The school was ranked as the number seven best public elementary school in Saint Croix County. Next, kids attend New Richmond Middle School, which has a B-plus overall Niche grade and was ranked as the third-best public middle school in Saint Croix County. Teenagers attend New Richmond High School, which has an overall Niche grade of B and was ranked as the number four best public high school in Saint Croix County.

Lovers of the great outdoors flock to the Casey Lake Wildlife Area. Its 364 acres contain northern hardwoods and aspen forest, open grassland, restored prairie, wetland habitat and Casey Lake. Fishing at the lake is limited since it’s shallow and often experiences winter kills. There’s plenty of wildlife to observe in the area, with birding, trapping and hunting being popular pastimes. You’ll likely encounter pheasant, deer, grouse, woodcock and waterfowl on your visit. Locals can hike the area or explore via the lake on a canoe.

Locals go to Twin Cities Airsoft & Paintball for a little friendly competition. Some courses are themed after significant historical battles, while others are based on popular video games. The park has a terrain full of forests, meadows, streams, bridges, hills, ravines and a lake, ensuring an exciting and dynamic experience. Meanwhile, Bases Loaded Saloon knocks it out of the park with fun drink specials inspired by America’s favorite pastime. There’s a baseball field right next to the saloon where local teams practice and compete. The community likes to come out and cheer on their team and then celebrate over drinks at the saloon. Fun community events like live music, indoor hunting contests and classic car shows take place at the local watering hole.

Motorcycle enthusiasts meet up at Vinny’s Sports Bar & Grill for companionship and to watch the big game. Locals gather here for games of Texas Hold ‘Em, live music nights and bingo nights. You’ll find your standard tavern fare at the eatery. When residents crave seafood or steak, they head to Laurel’s Supper Club, a casual dining establishment with cozy décor. Along the nearby Highway 65, you’ll find plenty of places to eat, like Ready Randy’s Sports Bar & Grill, Culver’s and Champs Sports Bar & Grill. When locals need to grab groceries and other essentials, they head to Dick’s Fresh Market. If any of this appeals, Erin Prairie may be worth a look.
