Vibrant area near shopping, dining and transportation
In Dorchester Hills and most New Rochelle neighborhoods, convenience is key. Dorchester Hills borders the affluent Scarsdale and has access to its train station and secondary shopping center. “The city as a whole has a vibrant neighborhood feel,” says Patrice Footes, a New Rochelle local and an associate broker with Coldwell Banker Realty. Footes is licensed in both New York and Connecticut. “That’s the best way to say it. I’m from New York City, and a relative came up here and was like: it’s like New York, but not New York.” Dorchester Hills is 27 miles from New York City and pairs the ease of shopping and transportation options with large homes and sprawling lawns.
Large homes starting around $1 million
Roadways wind throughout the area, bordered by long driveways leading to attached garages. Homes are on large lots with manicured lawns bordered by maple, plane and oak trees. Colonial Revival, split-level and New Traditional styles are common and range from $1 million to $2.5 million. Heathcote Court Cooperative is the only condo community in the area. Units range from $225,000 to about $500,000. “There are colonials built in the 1920s,” says Footes. “A lot of current owners modernize them.”
Many homes in Dorchester Hills have elaborate landscaping in their front yards.
