Hiking, boating and baseball in New Rochelle city parks
“Proximity to this park was a strong deciding factor in our choice to move into this house and into this neighborhood about eight years ago,” says Steve Candenhead, a member of the Ward Acres Conservancy, Inc. “The Paws Place dog park, the community garden, the history and the trails are some of the park's main attractions." He said the park also hosts community events. "This year's big event is an ecology-themed festival. ... Last fall, we held a Halloween costume parade and contest for dogs and their humans.” Trails throughout Ward Acres Park pass old stone walls and a 1906 barn complex. The complex was used as a haunted house in the early 2000s, but is now deemed unsafe and will be dismantled. The city will leave its stone foundations as a reminder of its history as a horse farm. Across the street, Pinebrook Park has a baseball field, hard-top basketball courts and a shaded playground. During the summer, residents visit waterside parks and boat clubs near the southern end of New Rochelle, 5 miles away.

Nearby shopping centers and farm fresh produce
Cherry Lawn Farm has served the area for over 75 years and offers farm fresh produce, a garden center and goods from its bakery and deli. Simply the Best Inc. is 2 miles away and offers similar items. Ward Acres has several shopping centers less than 5 miles away. One of the closest, Vernon Hills Shopping Center borders state Route 22, a commercial street lined with strip malls and restaurants. Vernon Hills has popular retailers like Nike, Gap and Barnes & Noble. Trader Joe's is also nearby. Quaker Ridge Shopping Center has ACME Markets for groceries and the Traditional Bagel Café for breakfast on the go. Italian Village Pizzeria is popular for traditional pies and is at The Golden Horseshoe Shopping Center in Scarsdale along with some other shops and restaurants.

Commuters use the Hutchinson River Parkway and public transportation
The Hutchinson River Parkway borders Ward Acres, and commuters use the roadway to merge onto state Route 9A, heading south to arrive in New York City in under an hour, depending on traffic. To reach Stamford, residents head north along the parkway for just over 30 minutes. The New Rochelle train station, 4 miles away, and the Crestwood train station, 2 miles away, are on the New Haven and Harlem lines, which reach Grand Central Terminal in under an hour. Bee Line bus stops line Quaker Ridge Road and Weaver Street. Bike lanes border the neighborhood on Pinebrook Boulevard. LaGuardia Airport is 21 miles away, and Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital is 4 miles away. Synagogues such as Temple Israel of New Rochelle and Young Israel of Scarsdale are along Hutchinson River Parkway and Weaver Street. Children attend New Rochelle schools
The City School District of New Rochelle receives a B-plus from Niche and serves Ward Acres. Children attend William B. Ward Elementary School, which also gets a B-plus, and Albert Leonard Middle School, which receives an A-minus. Students continue to New Rochelle High School, which also gets an A-minus. New Rochelle High School offers a Career and Technical Education program in marketing, giving students a head start on their future careers. The Hudson Country Montessori School is a prekindergarten through 12th-grade unrated private school within Ward Acres that focuses on teaching through hands-on learning.
