A quiet life near the beach in Glencoe
One of the biggest draws of Glencoe is that it offers a quieter brand of coastal living. "Even though this particular neighborhood is probably 5 miles to the beach, when you're on the beach, it's crowded," says Colleen Calnan of Calnan Real Estate, a broker with 33 years of real estate experience. "People like that they can live in a country feeling and still be close to the beach," she says. Open forest fill spaces in between Glencoe's subdivisions and locals live a stone's throw away from a bevy of outdoor recreation. Glencoe is an unincorporated area, making it diverse and eclectic. "I think the [area's] unification comes from living near the beach. It really does have a community feeling when you come into the downtown area," Calnan says. Downtown and another popular shopping and dining area, Flagler Avenue, are within 5 miles of Glencoe.
Glencoe is close to many amenities such as the Indian River and the beach.
Larger Glencoe homes might offer extended garages for more storage space.

Glencoe is surrounded by rich, tropical forest
Sandy backroads wind around dense tropical brush and trees in Glencoe, and this verdancy carries over into its leafy residential areas. The housing stock here offers a medley, whereas a few miles east, it’s more uniform. "You can find mobile homes, townhouses, estate homes and farms [in Glencoe]. And then downtown has a lot of historic homes,” Calnan says. Glencoe offers typical suburban subdivisions, but also 55-plus communities and gated communities. Mobile homes range from $25,000 to $88,000 depending on whether the land it's on is owned or rented land, or if it’s in a senior community. The townhouses in the HOA-led community of Hidden Pines wrap around a wildlife pond and community recreation, priced from the mid $200,000s to $300,000s. Single-family homes — a selection of which are new constructions — range from the mid $300,000s to the mid $500,000s unless they are on acres or in a gated community. Lake Waterford Estates offers gated lakeside living in luxurious residences ranging from the low $800,000s to over $1.5 million. Glencoe is in a flood zone and Florida is known for its tropical storms. The last major hurricane to hit New Smyrna was Hurricane Ian in 2022. The neighborhood's CAP Index Crime Score is lower than the national average, at 2 out of 10 versus 4.

Ice cream shops near the beach on Flagler Avenue
Although Glencoe is primarily residential, it's anchored by a retail corridor along State Highway 44 with an Aldis, Dunkin' and Home Depot. The highway flows eastward toward Canal Street and Flagler Avenue where there are more options. "Canal Street is the actual downtown [area]. It abuts the Intracoastal waterway, but it's on the mainland side," Calnan says. "When you're on Flagler Avenue, you can get an ice cream and walk to the beach." A whole day of dining can happen on Canal Street, where dozens of restaurants are within walking distance. Little Griddle on Canal is a breakfast pitstop with a small gift shop. Yellow Dog Eats serves salads and specialty sandwiches. The Corkscrew Bar and Grille has a full bar and is known for its elevated southern classics, including chili over freshly baked pineapple-jalapeno cornbread. On Flagler Avenue, The Breakers Ocean Front Restaurant & Bar serves crabcakes and grouper sandwiches from a pink shack by rolling waves. Locals grab ice cream between Treats on the Beach and Cold roll ice cream taco, which serves creamy scoops in taco-shaped waffle cones.
