Peaceful, family-friendly living in New Sttanton
With access to multiple major roads and highways, New Stanton is a gateway to exploring western Pennsylvania. “It’s kind of geared toward the traveler. We have a lot of hotels, fast food and gas stations,” says Jeff McLaughlin, who is coming up on his ninth year as borough manager. For residents, though, this little borough is much more than a rest stop. Centered on Interstates 70 and 76, New Stanton is a convenient home base for those who work in large employment centers such as Greensburg to the north. It’s also zoned for a highly rated school district, where children can learn and grow alongside their neighbors. Annual events bring residents together throughout the year, contributing to a strong sense of community. Despite the accessibility to larger cities, McLaughlin says many residents also find jobs close to home with major employers, including UPS and FedEx. “Amazon is also about six months away from opening up a warehouse here,” he says. With an already rich collection of existing homes and new construction in the works, New Stanton is a small borough with big opportunities.
Suburban-style homes in Westmoreland County
New Stanton is a growing community with plenty of current housing options and more on the horizon. “We have homes built in the late 1960s, another plan built in the 2000s, and new homes are currently being built on former farmland,” McLaughlin says, noting that while older boroughs are often built up, New Stanton still has some land available, and developers are eager to add properties. Buyers can expect to find a diverse mix of ranch-style homes, split-levels and newer Craftsman, as well as a few modern townhouses. Sizable lots leave room for small backyard pools or front gardens, which residents lovingly maintain throughout the year. While the borough’s newest homes are listed between $300,000 and $400,000, more established properties often sell for under $300,000.

Heading outdoors in New Stanton
With a baseball field and a huge, covered picnic area, New Stanton Park is a popular practice area for local leagues. Children also enjoy after-school visits to the colorful playground, and McLaughlin says the borough plans to add a new splash pad this coming year. In spring, blooming cherry blossoms welcome kayakers on their way to Sewickley Creek, which flows around the park’s western end. Come summer, residents can cool off at the Youngwood Area Park and Pool, located about a mile north.

Getting around New Stanton
As a major highway hub, New Stanton is one of the most accessible boroughs in Westmoreland County. Residents have direct access to Interstates 70 and 76, US Route 119 and state Route 66, which leads north to Greensburg’s AHN Hempfield Neighborhood Hospital. Residents also benefit from access to public transportation, which includes local bus stops and a park-and-ride station on North Center Avenue. These buses do offer routes all the way to downtown Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh International Airport, but the 35-mile trip is much faster by car.

The city of Pittsburgh is only about 40 mins from here. There are many concerts, major league sporting events, and art and cultural festivals. There are many ethnic groups that host festivals and events in the city and surrounding areas. We have 2 ski resorts in the mountains and many historical building and battle grounds to visit in the city and Laural Highland regions. The shopping and restaurants are numerous and vary in offerings of products.

Our immediate town has many warehouse, gas drilling, fast food, and restaurant jobs. UPS, Super Valu, and Westinghouse are the largest employers in our town. There are several nearby colleges, schools, and smaller private companies in the neighboring towns also.

There are many housing plans of various ages and sizes of houses. There are also a lot of rural and quiet country roads that have larger lots of land yet within minutes one can access mayor highway interstates.
