Hudson Terrace is for commuters and military members
In southwestern Newport News, the Hudson Terrace neighborhood draws residents and military members who want to be close to work and outdoor recreation. “There’s Langley Airforce Base and Fort Eustis, so there are a lot of military-friendly communities,” says Anita Cox, broker and owner of NextHome Coastal Luxury Realty. “Some people absolutely commute to Norfolk because the I-64 tunnels go right to the Naval Air Station.” Cox also highlights how accessibility to restaurants and outdoor destinations draws people to areas like Hudson Terrace. U.S. Route 17 runs through the area, making it easy to reach the nearby airport and popular parks. Home prices are much lower in Hudson Terrace than in nearby neighborhoods along the James River but with the same accessibility. Hudson Terrace is a place to relax at home while still having destinations close to home to explore.
Exploring Huntington Park and Main Street Library
“We have several parks,” Cox says. “Huntington Park is smaller, and there’s Newport News Park.” Huntington Park is more than just a public greenspace near the James River. The park features a tennis center with 20 courts, boat ramps that lead into the river, the small shore of Huntington Beach and Fort Fun's large playground. The Virginia War Museum is at the center of Huntington Park. Residents who want to relax at a bigger beach can drive 40 miles via Interstate 664 to Virginia Beach. The Main Street Library is closer to Hudson Terrace, where residents can pick up a new read or bring their kids by for storytime. The campus has a playground and community garden behind the library.
Huntington Park has six lighted pickleball courts in Newport News.
Hudson Terrace locals can take the family to the Virginia War Memorial to learn about the sacrifices of Virginians in military service and honor their legacy.

Ranch-style homes with shade trees and low prices
Route 17 cuts through the community, creating a divide between the apartment complexes in the west and single-family homes in the east. Most homes were built in the 1950s with ranch-style designs, often selling for $200,000 to $380,000. Because the homes are older, many have detached garages or none at all. The streets are sidewalk-free, creating room for residents who need to park on the street. Properties feature large yards, and many have trees in the backyards that shade the homes below. Summers can be humid with temperatures averaging in the 80s. During the winter, temperatures can drop below freezing, but snow is uncommon.
From the welcoming front porch to the spacious backyard, Hudson Terrace’s traditional homes offer all the charm you’re looking for.
