Newsome Park is a neighborhood about 2 miles east of Downtown Newport News. About three-fifths of the area is industrial, but these facilities are largely removed from residential roads, where small homes line streets with sidewalks. Plus, it’s less than 5 miles from shopping destinations, shoreside parks and Interstate 664.
Old and new homes great for first-time buyers
There’s a mix of older properties and new construction in Newsome Park. Colonial Revivals, ranch-style homes and small bungalows comprise most of the area’s housing. While most residents are renters, potential homebuyers can find a midcentury property that might need updates for between $130,000 and $200,000, while new builds run in the $300,000 to $400,000 range. “The rates are very affordable,” says Jessica Concepcion, an associate with Re/Max Peninsula and an over-two-decade Newport News resident. “There is so much opportunity, especially for a first-time homebuyer.”
