Riverside
Noland Trail, James River Country Club
The Mariner’s Museum is one of the largest maritime museums in the world, home to a collection of over 32,000 artifacts. Visitors can marvel at the life-sized reproduction of the USS Monitor or explore the International Small Craft Center. The museum also holds Noland Trail, a 5-mile footpath that winds through woodlands and around Mariner’s Lake. “We have multiple openings throughout the neighborhood with easy access to the trail,” adds Scott. The Virginia Living Museum is 2 miles north with 250 different species, a planetarium and a three-quarter-mile boardwalk trail. Riverside Beach is a private sliver of sandy coast along the James, only open to Riverside residents. Locals can also visit the nearby James River Country Club, a private, members-only club founded in 1932, for golf, tennis, swimming or dinner at the Huntington Lounge.Shopping and dining on Warwick Boulevard
There’s a Harris Teeter and Food Lion, as well as several dining options, along Warwick Boulevard. Aago is a local restaurant known for its familiar Indian and Nepalese eats. Subway Station, a laid-back mom-and-pop shop, has been dishing out signature oven-baked subs since 1977. And The Captain’s Den is a small café known for its in-house coffee and exotic teas.Riverside Community Civic Association events
The Riverside Community Civic Association hosts several community events throughout the year. There’s an annual Easter egg hunt, picnics and other social events through the summer and the beloved Riverside Day with live music, food and games.Ranch-style homes and waterfront estates
The neighborhood is peppered with ranch-style homes and Cape Cods with meticulously maintained lawns. Nearing the river, the styles shift to colonials and luxurious waterfront estates. Residences emphasize indoor and outdoor living with expansive decks, large windows, boat docks and fishing piers. While most homes are priced in the $400,000 to $600,000 range, riverside homes climb into the millions.Health sciences academy at Warwick High
Children in the area may start at Riverside Elementary, which Niche gives a C, before going to Gildersleeve Middle with a C-plus. Students may then attend Warwick High, which also gets a C-plus and offers the Governor's Health Sciences Academy. Riverside is also adjacent to Christopher Newport University, a public liberal arts college, and the Ferguson Center of the Arts, a world-class theater with traveling Broadway shows.Close to I-64, Newport News Airport
Because of the neighborhood’s suburban layout, it’s mostly car-dependent. Interstate 64 is the closest major road, offering easy access to Hampton and Williamsburg. There are also bus stops with daily service along Warwick Boulevard. Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport is 6 miles north and serves most major airlines.
