Warwick High allows students to get a head start

Students in Saunders begin at Joseph H. Saunders Elementary School and then attend Homer L. Hines Middle, both of which earn Niche grades of C. Students finish up at C-plus rated Warwick High, which offers the opportunity to enroll in IB courses and take advanced courses for college credit.

Sandy Bottom Park has a lot

Locals can spend a sunny afternoon outside at scenic Bethel Park, located on the edge of Big Bethel Reservoir. The park allows visitors to fish, canoe, kayak and take in the beautiful views. A handful of rentable covered pavilions with grills allow for gatherings, and kids can enjoy several playgrounds throughout the park. The adjacent Bethel Battlefield Paintball Park offers thrilling games of paintball, while nearby Sandy Bottom Park attracts visitors from all around. “Sandy Bottom Park is a wonderful spot for the community,” says DeLucia. “It’s great for walks, runs, camping – just about anything you could want.” In addition to its trails and camping spots, visitors can rent canoes or kayaks and bring along their furry friends for a stroll in the attached dog park.

With its proximity to I-64, Saunders makes an excellent spot for the area’s large military population. “We have several nearby bases in the area, and Saunders is particularly convenient for people who work on base,” says DeLucia. Langley Air Force Base, Fort Eustis, and the shipyard are all things that residents of Saunders commonly commute to, and residents looking to travel can do so at the nearby Newport/Williamsburg International Airport.
