Stuart Gardens offers access to the shore and affordable homes
Stuart Gardens is a Newport News neighborhood along the coast. This waterfront community is home to Anderson Park, where locals can sunbathe by the shore or get active on sports courts. Stuart Gardens offers more affordable homes than many parts of the city, and potential buyers can find historic homes they can put their stamp on or move-in-ready new builds. “If you’re a first-time homebuyer or investor, this is a great time to get involved,” says Jessica Concepcion, an associate with Re/Max Peninsula and an over-two-decade Newport News resident. “This is an up-and-coming city.”
Built for defense workers in the 1940s, Stuart Gardens is a living piece of Newport News history.
Solid, simple, and built to last — the brick ranchers of Stuart Gardens are neighborhood classics.

Hanging out at shoreside parks
“There’s so much to do,” Concepcion says. “There are so many parks in the area, and this neighborhood is close to so much.” In Stuart Gardens, Anderson Park pushes up to the Newport News Channel. Here, locals can sunbathe on sandy shores, compete on the sports courts or walk by the water. The adjacent Monitor-Merrimac Overlook Park also has a public beach, as well as a fishing pier that reaches into the water. Buckroe Beach, one of the area’s most popular, is about 11 miles away and gives residents access to the Chesapeake Bay.
Anderson Park basketball court sits at the edge of the city and the edge of the water.
Fishermen can find peace on the pier at Monitor-Merrimac Overlook Park.

Variety of home styles
Small cottages, Colonial Revivals and American Foursquares line the neighborhood’s weather-worn streets. Buyers can find a variety of types of properties here, from fixer-uppers to new builds. Homes that may need work can cost $100,000 to $200,000, while a renovated historic home might run in the $250,000 to $350,000 range. Recently built New Traditional properties can cost between $375,000 to $450,000. The neighborhood also has many apartment complexes, accommodating the nearly three-fourths of residents who rent.
From foundation to finish, these new builds reflect the future of Stuart Gardens: bold, hopeful, and built to last.
