Nye Beach's housing styles
Residential areas are populated by many homes left over from the neighborhood’s early days. Many of them even have ocean views or are within walking distance of shopping and dining “Some of the oldest homes in town were there from the days when pretty much nothing was going on there except fishing,” Rogers says. Condos, Craftsmans and beach cottages are all popular. “There’s the charming older cottage look with gables and dormers, design elements like that. Some of the older cottages are being restored to keep their vintage charm and the city has rules in place that any new or refinished buildings have to keep certain elements of Nye Beach style,” Rogers says. Home prices fluctuate between $300,000 on the lower end and $800,000 on the higher end.Parks of every kind
Ocean Shore State Recreation Area gives way to sandy beaches, rocky shores and several tidepools to explore. Don & Ann Davis Park hugs the coastline and while walking the cobblestone pathways, visitors will also come across the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the park’s rentable gazebo. Literacy Park, which is located behind the Newport Public Library, contains an amphitheater and a recreation area. Coast Park features state-of-the-art playground equipment, and the many subtle curves and dips encourage high speeds at Newport Skate Park.Nye Beach students
Students may attend Yaquina View Elementary School, which teaches kindergarten through second grade and maintains a B-rating from Niche. Sam Case Elementary School serves third through fifth grade and Newport Middle School both have B-ratings. Lastly, there's B-plus-rated Newport High School, which offers clubs in areas such as videography, dodgeball and equestrianism.Performances and art shows
Because of the many cultural associations that call Nye Beach home, there are plenty of places to explore local arts and culture. Shows are always being put on at The Newport Performing Arts Center, with its large venue and a black-box theater space. The Newport Visual Arts Center includes a public exhibition space for local artists and hosts programs and events.Highway 101, Route 20 and public transportation
Highway 101, locally known as Oregon Coast Highway, is located just outside the east side of the neighborhood. This well-traveled highway extends north to Washington state and south to California. Highway 101 also connects to Route 20, which extends across the country to Boston, Massachusetts. Lincoln County Transit makes several stops near Nye Beach, including on NW 8th Street and SW 2nd Street.Nye Beach's historic shopping district
Nye Beach owes much to its unique district of shops and restaurants, many of which have been around for decades. The Chowder Bowl has been dishing out chowder and seafood platters to the Newport community since 1980. Next door to The Chowder Bowl is Taphouse at Nye Creek, a family-friendly spot that offers burgers, pizza and cocktails. For more international palates, Sorella serves hand-crafted Italian dishes, while Zurita in Nye Beach delivers Spanish and Mediterranean flavors. There are also several boutique shops, including Tú Tú Tú Kitchen Cottage for kitchenware and Charisma Gifts for cards and knickknacks. For grocery shopping, McKay’s Market and Grocery Outlet are the places to go.
