Otter Rock's natural beauty
With the Pacific Ocean fiercely lapping against the shores to the west, Otter Rock is a stunning coastal enclave right on the Oregon Coast. Its smattering of beautiful rock configurations, beach-adjacent homes and small collection of local businesses make it a cherished coastal community.
The Devil's Punchbowl, Otter Crest Marine Gardens and Beverly State Beach Park
The most unique natural feature of Otter Rock is the Devils Punchbowl, a hollow rock formation sculpted by collapsed caves and rough waves. Around here, locals can go whale-watching, watch the cormorants and gulls take flight, explore the tidepools and enjoy scenic picnics. The high tides and winter storms often send the waves churning and crashing against the Punchbowl in a powerful display of nature in action. Just north of the Punchbowl is the biodiverse Otter Crest Marine Gardens, full of chiton and starfish to seals and sea lions. Passing underneath Spencer’s Creek Bridge, beachgoers will find Beverly Beach State Park, a five-mile expanse lined with shore pines and scattered with nurse logs. During the fall, the beach also gets littered with long ropes of bull kelp that have been uprooted by winds and moved to the shore. Just beyond is Cape Foulweather, a scenic peak that rises 500 feet above sea level and is considered where Oregon began because of its discovery in 1778.
Devil's Punchbowl offers stunning views and waves.

Condos, cottages and larger homes
Many Otter Rock homes share proximity to the beach and are guarded by lots of trees, providing ample shade and a welcoming woodsy feel. “They’re usually a bit quainter and cottage-like versus cookie-cutter homes,” says Audra Powell, a principal broker for Advantage Real Estate who has sold homes in the Newport area. “It’s really a mixed bag, but you get a lot of cedar-shingled homes that have that traditional coast look.” Otter Rock include condos, cottages and two-story bungalows. On the north side of Otter Rock is Sea Crest, a gated community with upscale, traditional homes. All over, condo prices range between $18,000 to $270,000 while two-bedroom homes can run anywhere between $515,000 to $770,000. Properties all over tend to remain on the market for about 90 days.

Vacation crowds and siren noise
Some homes are short-term vacation rentals and come with fractional ownerships so the neighborhood can be busier during the warmer months. The Otter Rock Fire Department is located in a residential area, so those living near the station should be advised that siren noise is possible.
