Small town with country living
Newton Falls, tucked away 10 miles from Warren, offers a small downtown district surrounded by miles of rural land. "It's a small town with country living," says local Realtor Carol Long of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Stouffer Realty. "Yeah, we've been growing slowly but surely with new businesses coming in, but we still keep that small-town feel." Most homes sit close to the area's main thoroughfare, Ohio State Route 534, lined with locally owned shops and casual restaurants. The community hosts annual family-oriented events, and neighbors spend summers together by Lake Milton. This rural town center holds a little bit of everything residents need, so they rarely drive into the city. "I've lived here all my life, and I never plan on leaving," Long says.

Shopping and dining at the neighborhood’s heart
Ridge Road, Broad Street and Milton Boulevard hold most of the neighborhood's commercial options. Broad Street, in particular, has a collection of niche shops, including Fieldview Acres Mercantile, an antique shop, and Benson's BS and Collectibles. A couple of doors down, The Covered Bridge Inn is named after a Newton Falls historic landmark and serves authentic Italian cuisine in a family-friendly atmosphere. Away from West Broad, Long recommends Big D's Newton Grill for its creative smash burgers. Maggies Doughnuts satisfies those with a sweet tooth, while Chit Chat Lounge is a favorite for a pint and Friday night karaoke. Newton Falls IGA and Shop 'n Save are the go-tos for fresh produce and pantry restocks. Close to IGA is an E&H Ace Hardware store.

Neighbors side by side or miles apart
Homes in Newton Falls are mainly concentrated around downtown, sitting on narrow lots with medium-sized front lawns. Listings are typically two stories and feature Craftsmen and Cape Cod design elements, like tapered porch columns and dormer windows. Bungalows, traditional-style homes and the occasional bi-level are also woven into the neighborhood's fabric. Sidewalks stretch past spacious garages and front porches adorned with American flags. Houses in more rural reaches have around 2 acres of land — plenty of room for a backyard playset, patio and garden. Gravel driveways lead to red brick ranches built in the 1970s. Homes typically sell between $100,000 and $150,000, but listings with higher square footage, more acreage or newer renovations can cost as much as $280,000. Investment properties needing tender loving care sell between $40,000 and $70,000.

Golfing, camping and summers on Craig Beach
Two branches of the Mahoning River run through Newton Falls, inviting residents to kayak or walk the trails along the banks. At the neighborhood's heart is Newton Falls Community Center and Park. The village council recently closed the community center, but the Newton Falls Preservation Society advocates reopening it. The center was an important historical landmark and community meeting place. The community park remains open, and residents can still use its various sports facilities, skate park and playground. Foster Metropark and West Branch Park are two other options for city park fun. At Duck Creek Golf Club, golfers can pay a small fee to play on the 18-hole course or practice on the driving range. During the summer, families head to Ridge Ranch Campground to swim in the 16-acre lake and enjoy a variety of family-friendly activities, from cornhole tournaments and candy bar bingo nights. Long shares that Lake Milton, 7 miles south, is also a popular summertime escape. "It's about a 10-minute drive. The lake is great for boating and fishing, and everybody goes swimming at Craig Beach."

Schools and library partner to teach kids about gardening
Students in the Newton Falls Exempted Village School District are zoned for two schools. In 2023, the district created a Youth Intensive Services program that provides students with free mental health support and other behavioral services on each campus. Rated an overall C-plus on Niche, Newton Falls Elementary and Middle School serves kindergarten through fifth grade within the same building. The school occasionally partners with the Newton Falls Public Library. Dawn Nutter, Adults Services Director at the library, shares, "Our children's librarian has a garden club, and she takes seeds to the school for students to plant and grow. At the end of the year, she'll bring the plants back to the library garden, and we'll have garden events and plant giveaways." Students then transition to Newton Falls Junior and Senior High School, which earns a C grade on Niche.

Newton Falls’ big Fourth of July bash
Summers in Newton Falls are filled with holiday festivities and annual community events. Since 1946, the Newton Falls Fourth of July Festivities Committee has hosted a week-long carnival with a spectacular fireworks show to culminate the event. Another highly anticipated summer event is the Newton Falls Arts in the Park. The interactive festival focuses more on creating than admiring works of art. Activities include painting legal graffiti on train cars and writing original fairytales with local artists.
Route 534 is the neighborhood’s main artery
The rural nature of Newton Falls means residents are generally dependent on their cars. Route 534 and Interstate 80 are major thoroughfares for the area, and 534 stretches south toward Interstate 76, 6-1/2 miles away, which connects to Akron and Youngstown. Newton Falls is 10 miles from Downtown Warren, but most people prefer to stay near home. "People generally don't want to be in Warren City unless they've lived there their whole life," Long says. Inside the neighborhood is Braceville Airport, but the landing strip only sees about 40 single-engine and ultralight airplanes a month. Commercial flights take off from Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport, 24 miles east.
