‘Family oriented’ neighborhood northwest of downtown Chicago

Chesterfield Gardens is a suburban Chicago neighborhood with A-rated public schools, a central neighborhood park and commuter-friendly options for folks working or visiting the Windy City. As a result, it can be an attractive area for families. “It’s a very family-oriented subdivision,” says Marina Kando, a broker at Baird & Warner Glenbrook with over 20 years of experience. “There are always families at the neighborhood park. It feels like a small community with affordable and spacious homes.”

A-plus Niles North High School

The Golf Elementary School District 67 is located in nearby Morton Grove and provides elementary and middle school education to the neighborhood. Hynes Elementary School is rated an A on Niche and serves students in kindergarten through fourth grade. Hynes feeds into Golf Middle School, which scores an A-minus. For high school, students transition to Niles North High School, part of Niles Township Community High School District 219. The school gets an A-plus, and Niche ranks it the 30th best of Illinois' 702 public high schools. The school has a technology focus with a resource office that repairs damaged Chromebooks and classes on computer repair and web design. About a mile to the west is Notre Dame College Prep, an all-boys private Catholic school with an A-minus Niche grade.

Townhouse subdivision on the east side of Shermer Road

Much of the neighborhood developed in the the 1950s and ‘60s and now contains a mixture of single-family homes, townhouses and condos in Chesterfield Gardens. The namesake subdivision is a collection of townhouses and condos that range from $275,000 to $375,000. “Some of them are end-unit bi-levels with cathedral ceilings,” Kando says. The single-family housing stock uses ranch-style, bi-level, and Victorian-influenced designs. These sell from $300,000 to $660,000. The density of housing in the area results in an active noise score on the First Street website, which tracks environmental factors. The website also indicates that the neighborhood experiences occasional moderate air quality.
