Ransom Ridge is on the edge of Niles and Park Ridge
Ransom Ridge is a neighborhood in the in-between. Stradling Park Ridge and Niles, community residents can easily access Park Ridge’s Metra station and half of the students here will attend Park Ridge’s schools. Furthermore, newer homes going up in the neighborhood means the community sits between both localities' typical architecture styles and price points. Still, even with so much changing in this neighborhood, the community stays constant. “You won’t get any complaints from the people who live in Niles,” says local and broker Ralph Milito with @properies, who has 32 years of experience selling in Niles. “People live here for decades.” Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church sits in the center of the community, within walking distance of homes.
Older homes and expensive newer builds in Ransom Ridge
Split-level and ranch-style homes built in the late 50s and 60s predominately line the streets in Ransom Ridge, selling between $300,000 and $600,000. “In Park Ridge—homes are a little higher priced. People who want Park Ridge schools will gravitate to that section of Niles,” Milito says. “You can get a better house for less money.” However, New Traditional homes built as recently as 2021 are becoming more popular, selling between $775,000 and $1.3 million. Young trees sit along the sidewalks, planted at regular intervals and dropping leaves on short-clipped front yards in the fall. CAP Index gives this neighborhood an overall crime score of 2, compared to the national average of 4.

Dempster Street's restaurants and hospital
Ransom Ridge’s residential streets branch off Greenwood Road, which also links people with Dempster Street to the north. Buses run along Dempster, connecting residents with supermarkets and local restaurants, and Milito emphasizes that these buses are free to use. Though regional PACE buses require fares, Routes 410, 411 and 412 in Niles do not charge passengers. Because Dempster Street is a busier road throughout Niles, residents living along it may hear traffic as it passes. Just 1 mile west, Advocate Lutheran General Hospital is just down Dempster Street, so residents on the northwestern side of Ransom Ridge may also hear the ambulances come and go. Downtown Chicago is 20 miles away, but the Dee Road Metra is about 1 mile away, connecting commuters with downtown. Chicago O’Hare is 6.5 miles from Ransom Ridge.

Ransom Ridge's walkable neighborhood parks
When Ransom Ridge residents want to get outside, they can walk to one of the neighborhood parks in the community. Right in the center of the neighborhood, Greenwood Park’s green and light brown playground features three slides. The park also offers a basketball court. On the southern side of Ransom Ridge, Ni-Ridge Park’s playground has a little rock-climbing wall. In the winter, kids come here to sled down the hill. Park Ridge Soccer Club hosts games on the soccer fields. Just across Western Avenue, Woodland Park is also within walking distance of homes, even if it’s not officially part of Ransom Ridge. Despite its name, trees only line the perimeter of Woodland Park, so most of the park is open space filled with pickleball courts and soccer fields. Constructed in 2023, it offers newer amenities not included by most local parks, like cornhole boxes and table tennis. South of Ransom Ridge, golfers can perfect their swing at Park Ridge Country Club.
