This community of just over 400 homes offers older home styles for comparatively friendly prices. “It’s a small community so everyone here knows one another,” says Adrienne Bowers, a manager at the neighborhood’s popular Plate Me Please Seafood & Bistro. “My aunt used to have her own restaurant here, that’s what brought me to the neighborhood.”

Oakmont North Playgrounds is a large green space east of the neighborhood that offers a paved walking path, basketball courts and a playground. Three miles east of Chesapeake Gardens/Mamie Homes is the Norfolk Botanical Garden with several miles of trails through seasonal floral blooms. Close to the interstate and airport

Chesapeake Gardens/Mamie Homes is mostly car-dependent with Interstate-64 south of the neighborhood homes being the major connection. Downtown Norfolk is five miles south and takes about 30 minutes by car. The community also has several public bus stops along Sewells Point Road with daily service. Norfolk International Airport, the largest in Hampton Roads, is located two miles east. Because of Chesapeake Gardens/Mamie Homes’ proximity to the interstate and the airport, there may be some additional ambient noise.
