Coronado is a small neighborhood with comparatively lower-priced homes. The community is located in the center of Norfolk and offers quick access to the city’s amenities. “You can go one way and get to the beach and go another way to get to the city,” says D'Alfred Shaw, a Realtor for Swell Real Estate Co, who’s been selling homes in the area for five years.

20th century ranches and cape cods
The neighborhood’s homes are arranged along traditional suburban gridded streets, with sidewalks, streetlights and mature deciduous trees lining the roads. 20th-century ranches and cape cod homes make up most of Coronado’s inventory. Driveways and street parking are available for vehicles, and some homes in the neighborhood include multi-car garages. Coronado’s houses tend to stay on the market for about a month and typically sell for between $200,000 to $400,000.

Little Creek Marketplace and popular local businesses
Little Creek Marketplace is the closest shopping center and has a Walmart Supercenter, Food Lion and an Old Time Pottery discount store. Little Creek Square is an additional nearby shopping center that offers an ALDI, Walmart Neighborhood Market and Big Lots. The Norfolk Premium Outlets are 3 miles east and offer a variety of niche retailers and boutiques. Wine & Cake Hobbies is a well-known locally-owned store with ingredients for making wines, beers and desserts. There are also popular local restaurants nearby, like T'San for Japanese cuisine and Lindy's Famous Hotdogs for classic American eats. “There’s a lot of great hole-in-the-wall places that only locals know about,” says Shaw.

Close to I-64, bus stops and the airport
Coronado is somewhat bikeable, but a car might still be necessary to get around the rest of the surrounding area. Interstate 64 is just north of the neighborhood and provides quick access to Virginia Beach, Portsmouth and the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel. Downtown Norfolk is 5 miles south, about 30 minutes by car, and Naval Station Norfolk is just 3 miles west, or around 10 minutes driving on I-64. Norfolk International Airport, the largest in Hampton Roads, is 2 miles east. Because of Coronado’s proximity to the interstate and the airport, there may be some additional ambient noise. There are also several bus stops with daily service along Chesapeake Boulevard.
