History and modern living meet on Wayne Creek
Once a quiet expanse of farmland, the two small neighborhoods of Cromwell Farm and Bolling Brook now come together to create a suburban area resting along the banks of Wayne Creek in Norfolk. “Norfolk has a little bit of something for everyone. You’ll find families, rental homes, mostly first-time home buyers, as well as rotating military,” says Colleen Kovach with Own Real Estate, who has been selling in the area for over 15 years. “Norfolk is also a beach community connected to the Chesapeake Bay, so you’ll find larger and more expensive waterfront homes there.” Though Tudor homes and shingle-sided Cape Cods now inhabit the neighborhood, the Cromwell Farmhouse, built in 1885, still stands. The Cromwell Family Cemetery is across the creek on Willow Wood Drive. Comfortable yards and towering trees make the Cromwell Farm and Bolling Brook neighborhood a desirable location. This neighborhood falls within the Norfolk City Public School district, which is graded an overall C-plus on Niche. The annual Greek Festival in Norfolk takes place just two blocks away, and residents enjoy the live music and dancing.

Tall trees shelter Tudor homes and Norfolk families
A variety of home styles can be found along the quiet streets of this creekside neighborhood. With tall, mature trees, slow-moving streets and a few comfortable sidewalks to stroll along, the town is ideal for biking and walking. Three-bedroom ranch-style homes on nice lots can cost around $250,000, while larger brick Tudor and renovated Cape Cods with more than three bedrooms can range in price from $275,000 to $455,000. Some homes on the banks of Wayne Creek with private docks hover around $550,000 and $650,000, though a few luxury homes with more than five bedrooms can reach nearly $1 million. For those living near the Bolling Brook area and Norfolk Christian Schools, houses "tend to be smaller and are priced lower," Kovach says. Several Bolling Brook houses with nice front stoops and gabled roofs can cost between $250,000 and $350,000.

Nearby fitness center and the Virginia Zoo
The Norfolk Fitness and Wellness Center nearby requires a membership and has several indoor and outdoor amenities for local residents. Their outdoor pool is open every summer from Memorial Day to Labor Day, and the center has many year-round activities. “The community center is like a big meeting place. A lot of people gather here or make friends in classes,” says Brandon Johnson, a personal trainer and group fitness instructor at the center who has been there for over 15 years. “We have a great senior program here, too.” Members of the center can join dance and yoga classes or use the gym and saunas. “A lot of our members have been here for years,” Johnson says, and there may be updates and renovations in the works to upgrade the center in the next few years. Three miles south and across the river is the Virginia Zoo, home to hundreds of animal species and a few themed gardens to explore. Outside the zoo, Lafayette Park offers a rugby pitch, disc golf course, tennis and basketball courts.

The annual Norfolk Greek Festival
The annual Greek Festival in Norfolk takes place at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral just two blocks up Granby Street each year. On the last weekend in May, visitors from all over gather for the food, live music, dancing and local artist vendors. The festival donates a part of its proceeds to support charities like the Youth Life Foundation of Richmond and Liberation Veteran Services. Because the event is so popular, it is common to see both cars and crowds lined up and down the street, so traffic and noise may increase during the event's excitement.
