Culture and cuisine characterize this Norfolk neighborhood
Hunter’s Square is where residents have no problem hunting down a tasty bite to eat. Just north of downtown Norfolk, this leafy neighborhood is nonetheless packed with eateries and transportation conveniences. Stretching from East 9th Street up to East 23rd, this tightly gridded neighborhood is broken up into bite-sized squares, as the name suggests, making it easy to navigate on foot. But here’s the other draw: access to key bus routes and major thoroughfares, plus dedicated bike lanes. When residents aren’t enjoying the quiet life at home, they prefer staying on the move and exploring what’s all around them, as described by Realtor Sam Sansalone, a real estate agent with Wainwright Real Estate, who’s been working in eastern Virginia since 2006. “It’s great for runners, walkers and for people who just want to enjoy the outside and also be close to lots of action.”
Condos and duplexes on shaded, walkable streets
Home prices hover between the mid $200,000s and low $300,000s. Condos are a popular option, given the walkable and somewhat urban quality of the neighborhood. But there are also duplexes, Modern Traditional homes and Craftsman cottages that line shaded streets. Front yards tend to be more decorative than functional, with a couple of small bushes standing in for landscaping. But the prevalence of sidewalks ensures that everything is kept neat and tidy for the frequent passersby.
